A random thought

Very mixed where we used to live which is much better imo. I think that large housing developments these days have to be mixed which is a good thing. We used to live in a predominantly posh area and would never do so again. Don't think I'd like a retirement complex either, I like a mix

Total mish mash in our reasonably small village.

Near the sea front where I am the houses are mainly Victorian,particularly on the actual sea front itself as shipping merchants owned/lived there along with cotton traders and those who were wealthy.
Around where I am there's a mixture of Victorian, modern semi's a self-styled detached house and a few flats. At the back of me there's an array of 2/3 bedroom semi's in a horseshoe shape road/cul-de-sac. Quite a variety, mid-60's builds I'd say.

We live close to the centre of the village on a road out towards town.

On our road there is a pub on the corner, two rows of terraces (each of 3 tiny houses) on our side there are then 3 modern detached houses before us, we live in the old village board school and then there are 7 or 8 larger modern houses, then a mix of modern and older individual houses before it becomes farmhouses, farms and the stables. The other side of the road is much the same but with a vast senior school and a Grade 1 listed Georgian manor house.

The downside of having fields and farms towards the end of the road is that they have been built on and we now have 3 very large estates tacked on to the outskirts and none of the facilities to cope with them.

Not at all nina. Across the road from me is a nineteenth century cottage which backs on to a small '70's estate consisting of bungalows. Going up the hill are Victorian terraces, '50' semis, and at the bottom of the hill, a house that used to be a pub from the 18th century. Quite a mixture!
