It has been a fairly busy day. Now is the time to put my comfy, baggy clothes on and loll. Bliss!
I cannot pretend to have caught up with you lovely lot, I would need a much longer day in order to perform that task.
I leace you with special, friendly thoughts and best wishes for a pleasant evening. Please...no slip sliding on the ice. That's an order.

Soop's super supportive kitchen (with a wing for poorly menfolk)
(1001 Posts)Here we are again. Happy as can be. All good friends and jolly good company.
WELCOME!
Charleygirl Your suggestion with reference to the dirty linen is sound. Can't waste electricity on the driers...patients will be expected to peg the laundry on the washing line. Let's hope they have suitable gloves, scarves, pom-pom hats and willy-warmers.
A warm welcome home, anno.
jane Those alarm thingies are a must for vulnerable persons living alone.
ann We visited the care home this morning. The main road was clear. The pavements were anything but. I have a special tottering gait on icy surfaces. I look as though I'm walking on egg shells.
Today's snowy scene in the "Wee Toon" - Campbeltown. And our view as we returned home. Both beautiful.
N&G Sad news for all those who loved the chocolate Labrador. Animals are members of the family. The more you love them, the greater the loss when they die.
The photo of the owl is brilliant. It should be enlarged, printed on canvas, framed and enjoyed forevermore.
Izabella Your wacky ensne of humour must be a tonic whenever you "do the rounds". Don't permit 'anky panky. If the gentlemen are well enough for that...then they have no business to bed-block.
Dearest Galen I've just this minute read your latest post. Many of your Gransnet friends felt wretched after hearing of your Lucy's tragic accident. There was no room for small talk.
If you are agreeable that us lot need to cheer up, then, just to please you, we shall do so.
Indeed. And why not. It should get rid of all the dirt under their fingernails. Good idea Charley
I bought a pair of those slip on crampon things for my walking boots. Need to borrow them?
Izabella my apologies but I will be unable to pick up the laundry tomorrow. Although there's only 2" of snow on the ground apparently it is very icy underneath so I am staying indoors as long as is necessary. It had started to thaw but it is snowing again.
Perhaps the inpatients could try hand washing the laundry?
Well we had a 30 minute white out this morning with large snowflakes falling down to mother earth. Now? Steely grey skies, a still frozen pond (with associated glum Heron) and NO SNOW. It just disappeared.
Highly unusual but a very lazy day today. I have become gripped with a Lee Child thriller so am working through that alongside various cups of tea.
The poorly wing remains busy by all accounts, and I shall go there tomorrow morning first thing so all had better in in order. Kindly note we never discharge at weekends so if anyone wishes to escape move on kindly apply before 1800hrs today.
Still vacancies in the anteroom for gentleladies. Galen why not pop in for some tranquility?
The usual kind thoughts to everyone else (I always appear vague as I forget names and would hate anyone to feel left out)
I will pop in later to see if any last minute admonishments adjustments are needed in the mens' wing before lights out.
Afternoon all from a chilly but snow free Norfolk.
In fact it was so ordinary that we went out for a mooch !!
Sam has had his walk and all is well in his world !
It sounds Charleygirl like you should find an old classic film on the tv and enjoy whatever chocolatey thing snuck into the house for today. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day to get out.
We had some very upset grandchildren yesterday evening as a beloved 14 yr old chocolate Labrador had to be put to sleep. The children were very brave and having said their goodbyes elected to sit on the floor with the poor old girl as she slipped away. But I think she will be much missed for many months.
I'll leave you on a lighter note, a friend from photography club took the 2 owl pictures recently and I am in awe of his patience and skill ! See what you think.
Just returned home from NZ to Galen's sad news. Galen, it's all been said, so I can say no more but share the condolences already so eloquently expressed.
After all the business class meals I've eaten in the past two days, I don't think I need to eat this weekend, but suppose will nevertheless. We had a meal en route to Sydney where more passengers were picked up, so another meal was provided which I declined as I needed to sleep. Before arriving at Dubai we had breakfast and I enjoyed my gingerbread French toast with lemon curd and apple purée! Then after Dubai there was another breakfast as we had picked up loads more passengers. I sacrificed my principles to have a small 'continental' breakfast. Then a full lunch mid morning before we landed at Manchester. There was also a choice of wine and soft drinks with every meal including champagne - even for breakfast. But they didn't seem able to make decent tea! It was a very comfortable journey but soooo long! The variety of films on offer was mind-boggling.
We had lots of lovely sunny weather in Christchurch and we got out and about quite a lot. It was great to be able to spend so much time with my sister and also to meet up with her son and his family as well as friends I've met on previous visits.
My heartfelt condolences Galen.
GG unfortunately they are in my bedroom and the glass bi-fold doors are bulging. At least I am thinking about it even if I have not managed to get there.
Cake or anything choclately are the last things which should enter this house but the latter did creep in unnoticed.
Galen, I've just caught up with the lovely folks in the kitchen and seen your news.
Please accept sincere condolences on the loss of Lucy, sending love to you and to your daughter at this very difficult time.
Charleygirl the cupboards will still be there tomorrow or next week!!! Have a cozy day on the sofa with cake ☕️?
At least it has stopped snowing in NW London but Tara does not understand why she has been grounded and has retired to bed in a huff.
I doubt if I will starve here- it may not be exactly what I want but I have two freezers full of food. Tara has enough food for around 6 weeks. It is so cold I keep feeling the radiators in case they have given up. I could, of course, keep warm by clearing out cupboards but that needs a lot of thought and planning.
I know what you mean about worried about falling. I only tripped in June and fractured my foot and ankle and now with a “dodgy” back I am paranoid about trip hazards inside and out.
ann have you thought of one of those alarm thingies?
You may not like the idea, but one night I happened to phone my mum. It wasn’t my usual time to ring her & I didn’t know what made me ring just then.
She didn’t answer. Tried again 10 minutes later, thinking she might have gone to the loo. She still didn’t answer.
Same thing 10 minutes later, and I was sure she wouldn’t have gone out, so I rang the next door neighbour who went round and she had fallen & was unable to get up.
If I hadn’t happened to ring then she could have been on the floor for days.
It might make you feel more confident if you had one.
Let us know how you get on with it Galen.
It is a brilliant idea.
When we were out for a walk on Wednesday I said to DH that I was fed up of having to think about every step these days. I am no longer a mountain goat (just an old goat!?).
I’m not proud! I’m practical!?
I’m buying one next week
"I am so scared of falling and breaking something " me too Ann.
Take a stick, or as friend advised one of those wheely/suport things, ?rollator?
I'm too proud for that yet but may well do soon.
Thankyou Galen it seems so insensitive to talk about trivia and the mundane when one of our friends has had such a loss, but we will do as you ask.
It is cold but bright here and the odd flake of snow is coming down, but it is thawing.
I hope anno arranged for her heating to be on when she gets home today after a month in NZ!!
I am going to see H this afternoon, I haven't been since Monday because of the weather.
I am so scared of falling and breaking something now I have no-one in the house with me.
Living alone is taking some getting used to.
Thankyou everyone.
Now, GET BACK TO NORMAL PLEASE.
Oh Galen I feel so sad for you. Words are never enough at times such as this but I shall hold you in the light.
There is such an outpouring of love and support on here. I hope it helps a little ......
