Nan: of course you can and I'll be your "local", as "Daarzet" was practically our 2nd. home. Michelle (remember her!) and family live in Ferndown, my brother's family lived just up the road in West Moors and my Mam lived in a 1 bedroom flat in Lower Parkstone on the B'mouth - Poole road after Dad died in Barnstaple. When she moved into a care home we were able to use her flat during our visits back home and we spent many hours around Poole harbour and Pottery. I see the Harbour Heights hotel is doing a Valentine's Day special for £239; rose petals on the bed. chocs and glasses of champers. How does that grab you? We spent a lot of time, and money,! on various family anniversaries there. But we can't go just yet because Teetime has me down on her dance card for the GN Valentine's ball. Cheers

Rufus I must have missed that little fracas last year, what a shame.

FYI I taught teachers to teach and loved every minute of it. So I would have in my class teachers who taught Languages, Keep Fit, Art, Car Mechanics, Swimming, Maths, Tourism. It was the theory of teaching not the subject itself. I am in touch with some of my lovely students today, we had so many laughs. I wasn’t exactly conventional ?

Bournemouth, beige cardis, a thread that ran to 270 posts. She's a recently retired IT teacher and told it to me, but I'll probably get into trouble again. My word, they must pay well in the Old Dart! She and DH are forever cruising on these enormous cruise ships, you know, 3000 passengers and 1500 crew! They've "done" the Med. Carribean and just about to fly to Singapore to pick up a Far East 3 weeker. Cripes!

Hi Rufus can I invite you to a virtual visit to Shell Bay just over the water from Sandbanks in Dorset? You take the car/foot passenger ferry. There are a number of miles of sandy beach partly owned by the National Trust. I seem to remember the next beach is called Knoll Beach. A local can correct me. You can sit in the sand dunes or swim in the sea or visit the lovely cafe. I was there last May and the weather was perfect.

Nan; Yes, first visit today thanks to Dora! What a fascinating place is the museum!? I can't see why certain members have taken umbrage at my initial post expressing my light hearted opinion of BC weather reports Take it or leave it! I know you can't compete with our sun-drenched beaches at the best of times, but that's life!
Will I be spanked in the H.T.'s office by a Ms.! There'll be no problem with bending over for "6 of the best"; straightening up again might be though!

Dora; Thank you very much for that URL. It was, and is, very interesting and has occupied a lot of my time this arvo. The album of photos is incredible and I haven't had time to get to the end yet.
The prog. of events shows a "Mother's Ruin" evening on 29 March (now why do I think of Brexit?). Presumably GN will have a delegation to that; can I volunteer as the "gintleman"? But ice-cream topped with pork scratchings! that must be an acquired taste! I'll go for the shortcrust pies (pork?) mash and gravy! Help to keep that BC cold outside!

Maw; Please don't lose your temper! My initial light-hearted comment has obviously touched a few nerves. I was simply expressing an opinion, as I believe I'm allowed to do, on the oft-repeated weather reports from the B.C. containing "cold, dank, gloomy" etc which are only to be expected in mid-Winter. Coupled with "black"doesn't make cheerful reading, but then, that's only my opinion.
Dora had the right positive response; she gave a most useful URL for the museum and I'll thank her shortly.

My in-laws are very old and I always thought it would be sad for the survivor but this must have been a shock.

Had the vicar call earlier, he's quite a character but a good egg. He knew my mil when he was a curate 30 years ago and it turned out that my grandmother-in-law had done some wallpapering for him when he moved parish.

Good morning. It's a brightish day in east London, just hoping the cold weather yesterday doesn't bring snow. The appointment in the calendar says 'take boy back to uni', his words not mine, so we've got a return trip to Chichester today. (About 180 miles)

Evening All; Lovely sunny day today, about 23C. Yesterday's rain was very welcome. Don't tell me there's a Black Country Museum, for heaven's sake; that really does give me the creeps, but I do like Black Adder humour; not at all gloomy!

Dull cold and a threateningly snowy sky. After me bragging about it being dry yesterday within the hour it snowed like billyo---big flakes too but fortunately it didn't stick and I was able to get out.

My day has been made after seeing the happy face of Dr Amir Khan on the news. " Behind closed doors " GP. Wish they were all as pleasant. A lovely man who loves his job.

No going out today, I'm keeping warm.
Stay out of the cold everyone if you can.
