When the study of mental illness was the hot topic, schizophrenia was the most popular retrospective diagnosis, but later porphyria became the most preferred. George 111 had all the physical signs and symptoms as well as (later on) the mental ones - and he would not have imagined (for instance) dark red urine, that was observed and noted by his physicians.

Other people sharing his genes also showed some or all of the signs and symptoms.

Yes, that is what I understood too Elegran. I've never heard any mention of him having schizophrenia.

Porphyria sounds like an absolutely miserable condition to have.

Not saying this is true or not, I am not overly interested, but I remember many years ago being surprised when German friends said Princess Margaret was divorcing, and again some time later that Charles and Diana were splitting up too. It was all over their papers but not in ours. Europeans have always seemed to be more interested in the royal family than maybe we are.

Porphyria wasn't a diagnosis at the time, but all the reports of his symptoms tally, and it is thought that several of his relations also inherited the disease, right up to the 20th Century (and that Mary Stewart/Queen of Scots may also have had it - she was related)

How do people manage to have multiple names? When I first joined GN my late husband also tried to join, using his email address, but was unable to do so - we assumed because we were both using the same computer and IP address.

Eloethan is trying to tell us it is completely absurd to suggest the people suffering from schizophrenia are likely to commit murder.
Thankfully few people refer to those who have mental health issues as mad.

My thoughts are that we should stop referring to King George lll as the mad king and re-title the film and play. It's a known fact that he suffered from schizophrenia which, in the 1700s, was not a diagnosis.
In any case madness, or rather, the word 'mad' is commonly used to describe a condition where the brain does not function in the usual manner as far a rationality goes, and irrationality is madness.
To object to a word in common use in favour of one which sounds more acceptable (but has the same meaning) is, to my mind, mad.
Like saying 'passed' instead of 'died'. One cloaking the reality, the other laying bare the bones. This is simply my view.

Schizophrenia is a very frightening and distressing condition for both the sufferer and the people close to him/her.

I believe the vast majority of murders are committed by people who, at least as far as appearances are concerned, come across as "normal". Schizophrenics are far more likely to hurt or kill themselves than anybody else and to characterise them as homicidal maniacs is very cruel.

We all need a bit of space now and again...or is that going to offend those who are joined at the hip?

With five grandchildren of her own I think the bolt hole is a good idea , it is a family home for her children

They were very much together at Charles's birthday party last month. Lovely couple. Great sense of humour.

Sounds like a perfect arrangement to me. We have a mobile home in the garden. I've often felt like moving in there when DH gets under my feet.

I think that Cami and Chas are good for each other. A much better match than Diana who was inveigled into marriage with him.
Charles was told by Prince Philip to 'Get on with it' as he was knocking on, age wise.
C&C seem a contented couple and she has her own time with her AC and GC at Ray Mill House, the home she retained after her divorce from Andrew Parker-Bowles.
Camilla is known to spend much of her time there and, when official appointments are planned, will meet Charles at a given point and they continue to the venue together.
On overseas trips, she will often fly out a few days earlier to 'acclimatise'.
They are the reasons as to why she isn't with him day in day out.
