I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like to feel that you are in the wrong gender body but one thing I can't understand is the utter selfishness of someone who has known since he was a child in marrying and fathering children. To do this to a woman is unforgivable, he should have told her before they married how he felt and given her the opportunity to make her own decisions about her life. On the subject of the chairs she is just being silly.

I do wonder if some trans people think life's going to be 'easier' as a female. Haha!

They are not women, they just think they would like to be. They look like men in a women's clothes.

Last week I was in a B&M looking at shampoos, A person rushed up to me and said,"you must buy that shampoo it is amazing", when I looked it was a man dressed as a women. What a cheek another women would not have come up to someone in that way. They are trying to make a point. Don't hear of many women wanting to become a man.

I didn't expect to find such TERFish comments as some above on Gransnet. I accept transwomen as women; they just haven't been assigned female gender at birth.

I worked for years as a school governor alongside a very nice trans woman. She was a massively public spirited person and I had the utmost respect for her, but it was interesting how while us ordinary mums invariably turned up to meetings and school events in fleeces, jeans and trainers, she was immaculately coiffed, with high heels and perfect manicure.
I felt it was a sign of insecurity - she felt if she didn't conform to the male fantasy of what a woman looks like, she would sort of slip back into being a man, or be mistaken for one.

I carry chairs about if I have to, but if I am in a hotel I don't expect to have to. Not sure why it is thought that she should do it.

I’ll join you, BradfordLass, in wondering why this sentence was included. I admire the courage of Sandra Forgues and the article, that one sentence aside, seemed fair and sympathetic. Was she asked to move the blooming chairs, did she actually refuse? I’d say it would be quite normal for the people running the interview to shift them, rather than the guest invited for interview. “Demur” seems to imply she was expected to do it - why would she be?

I agree with you BradfordL thesee were my thoughts after reading the article, and feel that the journalist put his own slant on things in a very negative way.

Having just read the article, and marvelled at the bravery and horror this person went through, to be herself, I wonder why a sentence about moving chairs was even important enough to include in the article.

Had they'd interviewed Juliette Binoche and she had allowed two men to return hotel chairs (which presumably they or the staff had brought down in the first place) would they have made a point of including it an article?

This scenario demonstrates perfectly that this person is not a woman at all because a real woman can be relied on to do anything at all within her physical capabilities. Including shifting armchairs up flights of stairs. And real women don't "demur bashfully" at anyone; they hitch up their bras and get on with it.

I seem to spend half my time carting chairs about and putting up or dismantling tresel tables.
Not sure what that has todo with what gender you are.

This person (not a woman) is lazy and has a sense of entitlement which is certainly not deserved.
