Smell versus taste

I know someone who lost their sense of smell suddenly, and it really depressed them.
It seems its something we don't appreciate until its gone. (Typical humans, I suppose)

I lost my sense of smell 7 years ago so therefore my taste - coffee is one thing which has gradually come back and thankfully I still like the taste although it has to be strong. I miss all smells and especially those that evoke memories

Bacon butties always smell better than they taste.

I can't eat fish because it just smells too fishy.
My stomach starts getting ready to rebel against it before I've even taken a mouthful.

I love cheese on pizza etc but don't like cold cheese. Strange isn't it.

The smell of Lamb cooking makes me feel sick and I can't eat it warm.
But I love cold lamb sandwiches!

My daughter loves the smell of cooked cheese but cannot abide to eat cheese or even handle it.

I think smells are very evocative. They bring back memories forgotten long ago.
Whereas taste is more confined to the present.
Hearing is more like smelling, recalling the past.

I love the smell of coffee, too, but hate the taste I don't think there is anything I hate the smell of that I could eat. Why doesn't the opposite happen?

I love the smell of strawberries, but not the taste...too tart for me.

Fish and chips from a chip shop smell nicer than they taste imo.

I love the smell of marmite but not the taste and the smell of gin but couldn’t drink it.
