Taking a rest!

All decorations both inside and outside (for grandchild) now removed and back in storage ready for next year. What a relief. Now to get down to the hoovering and cleaning to get rid of bits of tree etc from floors. I’m not the biggest of Christmas fans, it’s just too much disruption for me but I love the reasons behind it and the children’s excitement, taking them to see Santa etc. One more family gathering. At least it’s not me hosting this time ?

I took down my few decorations a few days ago but they are still waiting to go back into the loft. On the other hand I have put up some silver filigree year-round fairy lights which were a present. They cheer the place up. The Kasbah glass ones are on the bannister awaiting an organza sari from India with which I plan to do something artistic despite not having an artistic bone on my body!
I have enjoyed the solar lights in my garden so my neighbour gave me these indoor sets.

My husband and son were always keen to have the decorations put up and even helped a little. When it came to taking them down it was a different matter!

Now I'm on my own, the only sign I have that it is Christmas is the cards and they were tidied away the day after Boxing Day!

Took them down yesterday. Just wrestled them all into boxes. Now glaring at the loft ladder willing it to turn into an escalator. Magic wand anyone?

Mine are all staying up till Twelfth Night, and I’m not looking forward to taking them down even then. We said yesterday how welcoming it was to see the tree sparkling in the window as we drove down the street after a long day out. I’m going to miss it all!

Family coming for roast beef on Saturday, so the decorations can stay up for that. I like the Christmas things, but also quite like the clutter-free look afterwards. Don't enjoy putting the lights away though, they have a life of their own.

It seems many of you decorate the whole house inside and out.
All we have outside is a wreath on the door although there is a candle arch in the front window (kitchen)
Other than that we have just have a tree in the lounge/diner with a garland around the fireplace and a couple of santas and reindeer.
DGC enjoyed helping put them in their boxes yesterday. Just waiting for DH to move the boxes from the hall to the loft.

Mapleleaf I’m with you on that, want my moneysworth, so 12th night it is!
Besides, the lights are so lovely.

The family left at 10.00am this morning. I cleared the dining room and kitchen by lunch time, everything except getting the tree out of the house was done by 6.00pm, with occasional digressions to read the papers, check GN etc.

I am not doing any cleaning, we go away tomorrow for a week and I will do that spread gently over several days when I return, rested and refreshed.

Mine must stay up until Sunday. I'm having people over on Sunday so they can stay up for that.
I am permanently tired. I thought it was normal at this time of year but perhaps it isn't.
I've had far too much Christmas cake and stollen, wine and new year drinks.
The tv is showing how to eat healthy and learn to cook.
I am still on the sofa.

I started at 5 this morning and only finished cleaning up 12 hours later - I did have a visitor for an hour which stopped me. I've put all the boxes in the garage ready for OH to sort them out on Friday. I have to go home then and start taking those down which will take as long

Sar I think your decorations will probably be out again this year.

Agree decorations are lovely for Christmas and taking them down is a bit of a chore but the upside is the house now looks bright and airy.
Surfaces cleared ready for hyacinth bulbs and fresh flowers. ?

As I said in another thread, mine are coming down on 12th night. The lights brighten up a somewhat drab January- well, a small part of January anyway! ? Also, we spend so long getting them out of storage, put up, furniture rearranged, etc, that I want my money's worth!! ??

I took ours down this morning and thoroughly dusted and vacuumed the lounge. Took a couple of hours and now looks very clean, but very bare. All decorations and tree put away for another year.

Strangely, earlier today I was thinking just the opposite. It is so much easier and quicker to take decorations down than put them up.

But its not 12th night! How come you only have 3 boxes? I have just bought some more plastic (sorry) spider proof boxes to replace the cardboard as we cannot get them in the loft because of mobility probs, so they are going into the garage. However there are lots (and lots) of spiders in there. Still sticking with our decs till the weekend.

I've got as far as turning the tree lights off.

Don't take mine down til the 6th-dreading it...there always seems to be loads of dust collected everywhere..... furniture to rearrange.. etcetera...then upstairs and into the eaves where it's dark and cobwebby...ugh!

As I am slightly obsessed with all things Christmas, so far I have taken down decorations from guest room, bathrooms, GC bedroom (including MR GG repotting living tree from his room), hall stairs and landing and kitchen phew!!!!

Only lounge, dining room and outside lights & reindeers to go which I think will happen tomorrow or at the weekend.

Now having a coffee and catching up on here ?☕️

Damn - just noticed I have forgotten to take the cards off the back of the door!

Snap! Despite not quite over the lurgy, I’ve taken down most of the Christmas decorations. I find it more nostalgic, putting them away. Getting them out seems like greeting old friends.
DH has done the high stuff, put the living tree outside and put the boxes back in the loft.
I’m absolutely whacked, but why is it when I sit down, an angel and snowman are peeking at me from either side of the door handle?

I always find one that I missed long after the rest are safely stowed in the attic.Even when as today I checked every corner there will be one lurking ,waiting to be found .

Can I join the taking a rest club please? We have been at it all morning and still have the boxes to put away. Getting the tree into its box was like a bout of all-in wrestling; three submissions, nearly a knock out and one spilled cup of coffee (three tables and he has to put it on the floor!). I have had one decoration to mend. Superglue does not stick to glitter! The upside? We have daylight flooding into the living room once more!
