Enjoy the warm weather Rufus
Catch ya later!

Not me slipping Rufus you cheeky old thing wink
Sorry! That was a collective "you", as in "you lot"; not you personally! grinI'd imagined more would have pounced on that with typical Pommy humour! And not so much of the "old" if you don't mind; but then I caught your "wink" so that's OK. Take care! wink

Not me slipping Rufus you cheeky old thing wink

It was reported on the BBC over here!

It's gone into the Australian intelligence files by now, I expect, only to be revealed in 50 years' time. Hush hush!

Anja grin

Was it a spoof Rufus - or was it a boo-boo?
Jallima; Dunno! You must be slipping! I expected somebody would have had a crack about "Oz intelligentsia" appearing in the same sentence, like what how someone greeted my very first post when I linked "OZ" and "culture.!" grin ,after I'd explained I was here as the Poms' cultural attaché too! "2018" wouldn't have been out of place if it was NZ so they say; even earlier! shock Keep well!

I just had to check the Sydney Morning Herald Jalima
Nfk; Don't waste your time on the tabloids such as the SMH. The intelligentsia in OZ read "The Australian"; we find it has better, more accurate coverage, especially Sport.
Btw; how's your window-cleaning project going? Not much need at this time of year, I guess.
Keep Well!

Jalima1108 Thu 03-Jan-19 16:35:22

Ha! No, but I don't think Rufus believed me, he thinks I was on the Shiraz or had spent the evening in the Argy Bargy.

NfkDumpling Thu 03-Jan-19 08:15:32

I just had to check the Sydney Morning Herald Jalima. I thought you were having an early April Fool prank as I saw nothing anywhere else.

Happy 2019 Everyone!

Rufus2 Thu 03-Jan-19 07:50:27

Ha! As you know Rufus, we're a hardy lot up here.
Buffy; Ha! Ha! Ha!; But we're an even hardier lot "Down Under" grin
It's now 6.30pm Thurs. 28C 19Cmin. tonight; 42C forecast for tomorrow; in Melb! How does that grab you?
I don't think we'll be serving the Shiraz at room temp.! We'll abandon polite custom and serve it straight from the frig. grin
It might be lacking in bouquet etc., but it should be drinkable! After all I only buy quality, not plonk! We'll start at kick-off, 7.00am in the the "cool" of the day. hmm Wish us and City luck! cheers

Buffybee Wed 02-Jan-19 11:48:39

Strewth! You'd need to rug up.
Ha! As you know Rufus, we're a hardy lot up here.

Rufus2 Wed 02-Jan-19 11:07:04

Liverpool match on Thursday?
Buffy; Certainly will! Fortunately it's on TV here at a very convenient hour; 7.00am Friday! "Live", free and no ads. apart from half-time. If I've got it right, that means kick-off is at 8.00pm Thurs.?
Strewth! You'd need to rug up. hmm

Wheniwasyourage Tue 01-Jan-19 19:32:36

Oh dear, proof-reading specs not working this year blush . Nobody, as far as I know, sings "land" instead of "lang". It's the "old" and the "zyne" that are wrong!

Jalima1108 Tue 01-Jan-19 17:13:09

Did you have Jalima round for a knees-up?

Buffy only gave me soda water Rufus, I was (and am) completely sober!!

Have you not followed my link to the Sydney Morning Herald? I think it's the organisers of your Harbour Bridge Firework display who needed to add more water to whatever it was they were drinking grin

grumppa Why does everyone sing "For THE SAKE OF auld lang syne" when Burns wrote "For old lang syne"?

I don't know, I was singing loudly at the tv, trying to drown them out - the whole lot of them got it wrong!!

Wheniwasyourage Tue 01-Jan-19 16:25:58

Happy New Year to all!

grumppa, if you can stop people using an unnecessary "sake of", could you please also stop them saying "old lang zyne" instead of "auld land syne"?

Thank you very much grin

Buffybee Tue 01-Jan-19 14:22:22

Haha! You make me laugh Rufus!
Yes! I am a Man City supporter, will you get to watch the Liverpool match on Thursday?

Stansgran Tue 01-Jan-19 13:53:59

Happy new year and thank you all for the god advice given.

Nonnie Tue 01-Jan-19 13:44:33

Rufus grin

Rufus2 Tue 01-Jan-19 13:39:58

Unless they are rude to us!)
Nonnie; you took the words out of my mouth! wink
My N.Y. resolution No.1:
"be kind and considerate to everyone."
No.2: " No more jokes, especially any with a Scotch flavour! grin
I used to be schizophrenic, but we're OK now!

Nandalot Tue 01-Jan-19 13:09:31

Happy, healthy and peaceful New Year to all.

Nonnie Tue 01-Jan-19 12:46:35

Happy new year all and let's try to be tolerant to all posters. (unless they are rude to us!)

sodapop Tue 01-Jan-19 12:26:57

Yes no female monarchs for John Knox Maw think its a view shared by others too.
We know the quote Grumppa so it may as well be used in its entirety. I am very happy to have men on Gransnet as is everyone else I think. Minority groups are always welcome smile

grumppa Tue 01-Jan-19 11:06:01

a back seat!

grumppa Tue 01-Jan-19 11:03:56

I deliberately omitted the word "monstrous', sodapop, so as to make the reference merelynumerical. I also had in mind the recent thread where it was suggested by some that men should be banned from Gransnet. Never mind; as the, world becomes increasingly po-faced, levity takes backseat

Jalima1108 Tue 01-Jan-19 10:19:10

Here it is! Someone's getting a rap over the knuckles today grin
