Too many acronyms.

If I see a long post full of abbreviations I find it off putting and often don't bother to wade through it.
mcem people should be able to make their comments, new or otherwise else nothing would ever change.

The ‘D’ isn’t a problem, use to it, but I find initials used for legal problems or medical problems difficult

yggdrasil If I'm using abbreviations I don't have to go to the list to know what to type.
I've memorised them as I'm sure a lot of members have. They are not difficult.
Sometimes I write in full, sometimes not.

I think of the posters having to go to the acronyms list to get all those letters in where they want them, and then of me having to do the same thing to interpret them.
And there is no reason at all for the Ds, especially if they aren't

It's a bit rich to join a long-established group and grumble about its conventions!
Many of us joined with virtually no social media experience but quickly accepted the abbreviations -they are not acronyms!
In writing, we choose to use them or not as it suits us. Some long-standing members avoid them and that's their choice.
Would you join a swimming club then start complaining that you don't like water so please could the pool be emptied?
Use them/don't use them/like/dislike them but don't expect everyone else to discontinue their use!
What do you suggest? Ban their use? Report any posts using abbreviations to GN ? Demand that guilty posters be banned?
Or do you just get a grip and deal with it?

Mumofmadboys I know what they all mean that isn’t it at all, but knowing them doesn’t help when reading a post it’s hard to explain but I have to read it sometimes twice interpreting in my brain as I go it doesn’t just come naturally as it does to a lot of you
It’s not about being petty it’s about making it difficult for no real reason

I don’t like all the D before gc4 or ad4. I find it tedious to read so I miss those posts out. Much quicker to write in full as technology does it for you!

I look on them as another brain exercise like crosswords and codeword

Oh a huge problem if you’re ‘initial dyslexic’ I don’t do left and rights either I have to imagine my right hand writing before I can give directions and every bloody initial has to be interrupted in my brain as I m reading the often long story to make sense
I think there should be a minister for non initial brains
Annep do what I do and don’t get drawn into using the lazy form of ‘txt’ talk hopefully one day it ll die out

Agree about sil - depending on context it might be helpful to write sis-in-law but in general what’s the problem?

Took me a while to work them out (and I still sometimes get it wrong - s-i-l could be sister in law or son in law)

It seriously took me hardly any time at all to become familiar with these. People do often use ones that aren't on the list, but a quick Google usually provides enlightenment

The D usually stands for Dear or Darling, but can be for any other adjective, depending how you feel about the person .

There is an 'Acronyms' tab at the top of the forum page explaining the most commonly used ones.

Not just you annep. Takes longer to try to work out what they mean than to read a post without them.
