Please HQ, step away from the Pinot and crisps and do your job?

oldbatty Sun 30-Dec-18 16:50:50

It should be women only.

Nanna58 Sun 30-Dec-18 16:48:15

It’s not a case of accepting it, it’s a way , in the absence of knowing who they are, of cutting off the attention to them. VERY wrong of you to suggest I might ‘smile indulgently’ I’m surprised at you Maw.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 30-Dec-18 16:44:36

MawBroon I totally agree with you.

I have a good sense of humour, but in this day and age a male posting things that you have reiterated on a mainly female forum is unacceptable.

I think there maybe "something in the air" as Gransnett appears to be full of nastiness today.

I shall stick to "the kitchen" for a few days until things calm down.

MawBroon Sun 30-Dec-18 16:40:44

Doesn’t this take us back to the days when sexist comments or inappropriate actions were something up with which women and girls had to put?
Ignore?
Tolerate?
Smile indulgently as if they are the height of wit?

One man using g the phrases “sour puss” , “below the belt” and “a good seeing to on your back” are not things I am prepared to accept and I am amazed that anybody should think otherwise in these more enlightened times.

Chewbacca Sun 30-Dec-18 16:20:00

Why should inappropriate comments be ignored? If they make the recipient of the comment, and other users of the forum uncomfortable, shouldn't they be stopped from causing further upset? It wouldn't be acceptable in face to face conversations so why accept it here?

Nanna58 Sun 30-Dec-18 16:15:36

Here’s an idea, if a male poster makes an inappropriate comment we could always just ignore it ( shock, horror!)

Chewbacca Sun 30-Dec-18 15:54:37

What has changed?

A male poster made inappropriate comments, to a female poster, on one of the "intimate" threads Coolgran. It's not acceptable on this forum really is it?

Coolgran65 Sun 30-Dec-18 15:39:15

There have in the past been many threads regarding female issues, some with pretty personal and intimate content. In particular one that I was very involved in probably a couple of years ago. I don't recall there ever having been any difficulties, only care and support.

What has changed?

EllaKeat Sun 30-Dec-18 15:21:44

It might help if there was a 'has been a member since' tag attached to the user name.
I have lurked for a couple of years, but just posted in the last day or so. Anyone trying to 'verify' me would struggle because I have not posted, but I HAVE been here for a long time.

seacliff Sun 30-Dec-18 11:08:51

Oh dear I don't know what (or who) to believe now.

Recently I searched for posts on something I was interested in buying, and my search found so many old posts from familiar Gransnetters who are no longer with us. Very sad to see all those names now gone (or possibly some changed name).

There seem a lot fewer regular posters now, I think many were driven away by the privacy issues. Gransnet seems to be gradually disappearing. I'm sure there are many lurkers, who regularly read but choose not to post.

When I read a new post with a rather risqué or weird feel, from an unknown poster, I sometimes search to see if they are actually new. If so I would just ignore the post. "They" want to upset us and get attention. Best thing is to totally ignore the post.

I realise this means some new posters with a genuine problem may be ignored. But it's worth the risk in my opinion.

Yes, Annibach. I attended a renound consultant due to hormonal issues I was suffering long before the menopause. I think I’ve actually made too much of this now as my doctor thinks I should be grateful & I dont suffer the dreadful pms I used to get every month. I do feel for women especially in the 50 plus age group who find certain aspects of life difficult at this time when their husbands are fit & healthy. Thankfully in a loving relationship most husbands understand.

.

Anniebach Sat 29-Dec-18 22:50:25

Far higher places ?

Vickixx Sat 29-Dec-18 22:43:31

People are welcome to be titilated if that’s their pleasure but it says more about them than me. I’d happily talk about the menopause and the various symptoms that can happen with oestrogen hormone surges that are not usual. I thought as women we would at least try to share in our experiences without being made to feel odd. The menopause is without doubt odd and it causes a lot of extreme symptoms for many and if mine is what I posted about don’t expect me to be ashamed. I’ve had one partner in life & we love each other & that’s enough for me. I’ve spoken about sex and the menopause to people in far higher places. ??

Vickixx Sat 29-Dec-18 22:26:45

Aw thanks Bohemian & if you read my posts you will see I’m actually very amiable and caring & honest to a fault ?‍♀️

Vickixx Sat 29-Dec-18 22:24:41

I’m with you EllaKeat. I fear in an ‘established’ community of people it’s only natural to be treated with suspicion initially & although sad it's also understandle. The regulars will have their pick & choice of people welcome to ‘join in’ One thing is for certain I’ve been knocked of kilter with a bad cold and fever & the forum has helped me take my mind of it. I only wish it had a better outcome. Please don’t take it personally. I know I don’t. My Grandchild is over to stay tomorrow so I better work on getting better.

boheminan Sat 29-Dec-18 22:16:03

Sanity is finally breaking through I hope). I daren't even say 'welcome' Vickixx, in case I get seen as an intruder. What a rotten introduction to GN for you wine flowers

Vickixx Sat 29-Dec-18 21:55:57

Oh dear, I fear as I am new I have been deemed a suspicious poster due to my content. If I’ve offended anyone I apologise sincerely. I’m in my fifties and I was brought up to have no fear about speaking about any subject under the sun as long as it’s not offensive. I made some genuine points about different aspects of the menopause (again genuine) & perhaps it’s my fault for having no issues around any subject I shared. This probably wouldn’t have happened on mumsnet which says something but hey ho onwards & upwards and apologies again.

EllaKeat Sat 29-Dec-18 21:44:50

And do you not want new members Lisagran? I lurked for a long time before nervously joining in, but maybe should have stayed lurking......

If it was my naive question, then sorry.

Back to peeking out occasionally. As you were.

NanaandGrampy Sat 29-Dec-18 21:44:18

What gangLisagran ?

Lisagran Sat 29-Dec-18 21:41:11

Seems like the gang is expanding? And asking naive questions......

Gonegirl Sat 29-Dec-18 21:40:09

Anyone remember the old "reds under the beds" thing?

NanaandGrampy Sat 29-Dec-18 21:26:50

It’s not the subject matter .

It’s the perfect storm, unknown posters, strange subject material, aggressive posts .

This forum has been going a while , very little is ever new so we regularly get odd posts . After awhile you do get a feel for things that aren’t quite right .

Beau Sat 29-Dec-18 21:19:16

Nothing is wrong with it EllaKeat, I also don't understand why everyone is getting so suspicious about certain posters.
