Coat hangers!

My hangers have arrived!!!!!

My wardrobe is tidy! - every garment has its own hanger! - nothing is falling off!

This truly is a new life!!!!

Co signing for thin velvet hangers ( available at very reasonable prices from ebay, amazon).

They save a huge amount of space in the wardrobe and stuff doesn’t fall off them. I got at least 50% more stuff into my hanging space when I switched to them.

I stick to wooden ones for knitwear though.

As so many have said, invest in the suede/velvet ones!
Effective, space-saving and inexpensive!

use elastic bands on the ends of coat hangers .problem solved..we use them like that in the charity shop i volunteer at..

My late Ddad used to say that umbrellas were 'the invention of the devil'. In recent years,I have frequently said the same thing about coat hangers! I put a load of spare ones in an empty suitcase about 2 years ago. A few weeks ago my Ddaughter asked me if she could have some of them. OMG I nearly lost the will to live,trying to extricate about a dozen of them from the case. I swear they were deliberately ganging up on me.....

Is there a way to recycle plastic hangers. I offered them to a charity shop but a snooty assistant said they only use wooden ones. I hate the idea that they must go to landfill

The instructions were clear, thank you but it's not I who lost the earrings. The time taken to fiddle around making a Fred Karno facsimile dowsing rod, IMO, might have been a wee bit too long...always assuming that that person had a tool capable of cutting a wire hanger or enough strength in her/his hands to break it
I'm well aware that silver/gold and some other metals are not able to be attracted to a magnet, indeed, gold usually repels, albeit weakly.
Many posts are hypoallergenic base metal (even some posts on diamond earrings) thus able to be drawn to a strong magnet.
It was just a suggestion, as was yours.
If you know in advance that you are never going to agree with my comments, indeed, usually the reverse, may I suggest that you don't read them? It will save a lot of typing.

Wrap an elastic band round the ends of your hangers it will stop things sliding off. It does work.

Lyndiloo. If you haven't found your earring yet, there is probably a detectorist club in your area. The members are usually very obliging, and will come along with their metal detectors and, with luck, find your missing item.

I am intrigued that this thread has struck a chord with others - I thought it was just me who hated them!

Yes coat hangers do breed in cupboards but now and then they do a mass migration and then you can't find any.

I don’t like wire hangers and must try velvety non slip hangers, but the hangers with crocodile peg things for skirts and leggings from M&S which I keep use and always say yes to....

Did you find the instructions weren't clear enough, Gabriella? Sorry! Or was it not having the the snips to cut the wire with?

If Lyndiloo's earring is attracted to a magnet, it isn't of very precious metal, so she was over-charged for it.

lucky like you it’s never occurred to me to buy hangers. Let me know how the flocked ones do, I may even become a convert!

I have the usual problems with hangers like previous posters, but it's in shops that they really gang up on me. I only have to approach a clothes rack and the clothes, sometimes with hangers and sometimes without, just leap off the rails and entangle themselves on the floor or with other clothes.

Try using a large magnet and trawling over the lawn with it. Better than trying to make a downer.

Wire hangers are awful, you can put them 10 feet apart and when you next open the wardrobe, not only are they entwined, they have had babies.

i run a charity shop and have a daily battle with flipping coat hangers never find the right sort and i swear overnight they tangle themselves up deliberately so i cannot separate them to use them the next day work of the devil they are

I hate the coat hangers they give you in hotel wardrobes, designed so that you won't steal them. They are supposed to unhook from the base, but they never do. Who would want to steal their stupid coat hangers anyway?

I like those padded hangers best and to stop things like sleeveless dresses from slipping off I've sewn buttons on the top outside edges of the hangers.
To stop these from slipping off my shoulders I've made 'strap-traps' for them.
Jumpers and t-shirts I fold up, yes they do get creased but I'm slobbish enough not to care. Obviously I'll run an iron over them if I'm going somewhere nice.

For trousers I invested in several sets of open ended non slip trouser hangers, from somewhere like Hangerworld on the Amazon site. They are not expensive, but absolutely transform the trouser section of a wardrobe.
I do use plastic hangers for the rest but make sure they are at least the same shape as each other, just the fairly flat ones

Hate them! They've got a life of their own if left to their own devices in a wardrobe. They're on a par with cling film and hosepipes!

PS. The person is the dowser, the equipment is a dowsing rod.
