I got that head shake from an idiot who turned onto the road I was crossing because he didn’t feel the need to indicate that he was turning.

He got a rather rude gesture in reply.

You really should not trust cars to stop, it's a matter of survival, regardless of who is right or wrong, wait until you have eye contact, they might not have seen you.

She'd literally stopped between 2 sets of traffic lights at the pedestrian crossing point I was crossing when she pulled away. Try to teach the little uns road safety & common sense & you get "plonkers" changing all the rules.

Green man, your right of way. No brainer.

Davidhs if they don't stop at a pelican crossings when lights are red it's an offence, whether there is anyone crossing or not.
It's not a question of making eye contact as with a zebra crossing.

If they fail to stop at the lights and you get knocked down, you may no longer be worrying about whether they have committed an offence or not! There are no lawyers in heaven.

Some people really ought to re-read the highway code. The law about pedestrian crossings is clearly shown there. We're there zig zag lines where the woman dropped off her passenger? If so she was in breach of the law.

Pelican crossings. These are signal-controlled crossings where flashing amber follows the red ‘Stop’ light. You MUST stop when the red light shows. When the amber light is flashing, you MUST give way to any pedestrians on the crossing. If the amber light is flashing and there are no pedestrians on the crossing, you may proceed with caution.

I was too busy looking at the red man waiting for him to change green on my right-hand side to really notice whether the driver had driven through the red light. Maybe She'd driven through when it was green but it changed whilst her passenger was jumping out. But it was the head shake that annoyed me. I'd patiently waited & was merely crossing when the lights said I could.

I was nearly taken out by a huge German lorry last week crossing the road to our local cinema. Two young men and I had been waiting for the green man and when the lorry stopped at the lights we set off walking across. The lorry then did a bit of a lurch and set off again, skimming past the three of us. Goodness knows what was going on there - genuine error, stall, or would-be serial killer on the loose?

Nowhere is safe Maggiemaybe is it? Something similar happened to my daughter when she was going to school and crossed the road on her green light. The first car had stopped but one behind ploughed into it without stopping and the first car was propelled onto the pedestrian crossing. It missed my daughter by inches.

Near me, a suspect car being followed by police overtook the queue at the lights and knocked down and killed a child who was crossing. The driver sped off, the car was found abandoned on waste ground not far off, the boot filled with housebreaking tools and loot.

They should look!

But if the driver doesn't see the light you are going to be run over, plenty are.
