If you won the lottery

I agree that lotteries, like all the other ways of wasting money on games of chance, have got completely out of hand. Many of the people I see buying tickets don’t look as if they can really afford it.

I stopped buying a ticket when a second ‘game’ was launched as I got too confused as to which one to get so bought one of each. So spent twice as much. Now there’s several sorts of lottery, I’d be spending a fortune!

I have premium bonds, that way I have a chance of a win and still have my stake. I get regular £25 wins. Still hoping for that million.

I think it was Edmund Burke who described a lottery as a tax on all fools. I should really like to see all national lotteries abolished, not least because they encourage unreasonable greed. (Or is greed unreasonable per se?)

I agree with Lewie wholeheartedly. I think I would panic if I won too much. However to answer the question, family first of course, then private health care, a slightly bigger house- with a lift- rather than a bungalow. Not huge or isolated. I like close neighbours. Charities of course but which ones would be a problem.

I'm such a procrastinator already, I'm beginning to wonder if I'd have the oomph to set up anything, if I had all that leisure time stretched out before me.
I'm such a fan of doing nothing.

After making sure myself and my family were ok, I would love to set up two charities. One for animals and one for all the small personal charities that get sidestepped by the big boys. Things like, a child needing a specialised wheelchair or an adult needing something to enable them to partake in a sport they loved, but can no longer do because of a disability.

It would all have to be done hush hush so I wasn’t inundated with ‘begging’ letters.

Someone I know, let’s call him Sean, won a large amount on the lottery. He and his father were both labourers in the building trade, and not well off at all. His father, approaching sixty, was about to go back to work after a long illness- he couldn’t afford to retire. On the Sunday morning after his big win, Sean and family went round to see his parents after church, as usual. His father showed him his new work boots, a considerable investment for him, and said they were a bit stiff.
“I know how to fix that , dad, “ said his son, “have you got any paraffin?”and took the boots down the garden, and, to his father’s horror, set them alight.
That’s how he told his father he need never work again.

Won £30 on last night’s lotto - that can go with the 2 x £25 premium bond win to fund Christmas dinner. I don’t normally play lotto any more since they ended the million pound raffle, just did it as a one off.

Now I normally play euromollions as they still have a million pound raffle in every draw, and keep my fingers crossed for the premium bonds.

I’d love to win the million either on premium bonds or Euromillions. I agree that prizes higher than that are wrong as nobody needs more than a million.

I would like to be able to give pots of money to research on diseases like MS, Motor Neurone Disease and Alzheimers.

Lewie I quite agree. A million pounds could help a lot of people beyond measure, and who really needs £76m anyway.

I can’t help but feel how much more equitable it would be for 76 different people to win a million pounds.

I don't do the lottery apart from using Search Lotto as my search engine. They put you in a syndicate, you can have up to 4 chances a week and I have won lots of £10 wins - ok, it's only £1 but better than nothing - may still win a slightly bigger sum. But have always said I wouldn't want one of those obscene wins - just say 50 or 100K - enough to pay off my credit cards, maybe buy a small car, go on holiday etc. If I did win more, perhaps 200K, definitely a small house with a big garden - herbs, fruit and veg, maybe a few chickens, a few bee hives etc . Then I'd invest whatever was left over so I wouldn't have to worry about the proverbial "rainy day".

I would pay off the kids’ mortgages, give them a lump sum and renovate our house to make it more comfortable (I have the plans in my head). Buy a small campervan and a new little motor cruiser.

Then I’d invest most of it so I could support local good causes. And I’d buy up a load of those soup can safes, put £500 in each and leave them with the food banks to put one in each bag.

When I win on Tuesday evening 98m, I am buying a huge house nearby, make sure my family all have a share of the winnings. Then I intend setting up something for homeless as does my DH. Mine's would be a housing co-op, DH not sure yet what he will do for homeless people.
I will buy myself a huge AGA range cooker, something I have covetted for decades and I would probably spend the rest of my life polishing said AGA so that it remains free of fingerprints should anyone dare to touch it.

When (see the optimism there ) I win, I will win huge. Massive. With lots and lots of zeros on the cheque.

Of course, it goes without saying that I will see my family are ok, with their own homes and a bit of cash to spend as they see fit.

But after that, my aim is to buy lots of properties up and down the country to let (at very reasonable rents) to victims of domestic abuse, who stay in those awful relationships because they feel they have nowhere to go.

I would then retire and foster animals from rescue homes, do volunteer dog walking for them and/or do puppy walking for the Guide Dogs for the Blind

icanhandthemback. God bless you and your family. You are and example of how some people have to endure so many problems and yet soldier on because they love their children. I hope and pray that soon your son's family get the home and education provision they deserve and need and their traveling can somehow be made less burdensome.

Every day we see people on the news or from Charity requests for donations who are suffering in ways that are so terrible. I had started wishing I could become so rich that I could respond and help in a really life changing way for these people. It seems that Jesus' words "the Poor you will always have with you" are everlasting, but I wish I could do something about the suffering, especially of the children.

I would set up a charity with 60% of it , with my family administrating and investing to maximise its use ( they would be on good salaries and do jobs that suit their skills) if they wanted to of course. Invest,in properties for the grandchildren for their future, stay where we are but make major house improvements . New cars for all of us, set up a care hotel for our future . . £76 million is too much unless you predominately use it for others ☃️??

I like henetha's idea of hiring a PA for the same reason as her. I am fed up with coping alone and life gets more and more complicated every day!

I would see to my children and gc first and then the rest to charity. Also something I could do to help get people of the streets if I had enough, day centres or sleep pods that sort of thing.

I would buy a new house for son so my DGC can have a garden. I'd buy it where he wanted to live and then pay for his son to have the speech therapy/schooling my DGS so desperately needs. At the moment my son has an hour and a half's drive each way to get him and his wife to work. They daren't move because the area he works in has dire services for autism by comparison to where he lives.

I would discuss investments with my bank; hire a gardener and have the front garden turned into something easy to keep tidy, pave the drive and we would build a new bathroom too.

Look into which charities we wanted to donate to.

Travel while we are still fit enough to enjoy it.

First off, I'd get my dd a housekeeper 5 mornings a week to help her keep her place in order.
I'd pay for the kids to go to private school S there's no way they are reaching their potential where they are.
Then I'd go private and get me and hubby a full MOT.
I'd help out some family had hard working young folk I know and then have a serious think about what to do with what's left!
