Well, my grandson's class has been told that if they don't get 'Good' or above in all their lessons, they will not be allowed to go on the school trip to Barcelona. And no refund will be given! I think schools are getting desperate for good results across the whole board.

gonegirl Are they a reception class which has only been attending for a few months? If so, I am surprised they have a school trip to Barcelona (and I pity the teachers taking them!)

Conegirl, the schools are now dictated/controlled by a bunch of busybodies known as OFSTED. Teachers and schools are answerable to this dictatorship ! All wrong.

There may be some ex school inspectors on this site and they may object to being called 'busybodies'.

Of course, if no-one cares about standards or regulations then there is nothing to worry about.

It isn't long since there was a thread about children going into school unable to use a knife and fork and not toilet trained. Now it seems there is a reception class where being unable write your name is a punishable offence and anoher which is off to Barcelona! Having done loads of school trips with young children I pity the individual who gets the sick bucket duty and/or the toilet duty.

Are they going to Barcelona by coach? It could take some while …..

Do you remember the thread about not allowing the children to go out to the toilets, this sounds a bit similar

trisher as the DiL of a reception teacher, all I can say that between 1935 and 1975, my MiL dealt with children starting school in nappies and those who ate with their hands and didn't know what cutlery was for. However, I think it highly unlikely she ever punished a child for not being able to write their name.

Results and school trip are separate things especially if parents have already forked money over.

As stated somewhere on this thread, what a pupil says happened in school may not be the absolute truth.

The teacher may have told them to behave or else they would not be allowed on the school trip.

Sorry. Only just caught up with this thread. No. Grandson is in secondary school. Can't remember which year he is in now. And they are going on a plane.

This. No one, not even a school, has any legal right to take money as payment, for example a school trip, and then withold what has been paid for and refuse a refund. Once the money has been handed over, a contract has been made between the pupil and the school. To refuse the pupil to go on that trip, or refuse to refund the money, is a breach of that contract. And they wouldn't stand a chance of winning if the pupil took his case to court.

So I'm very about this claim.

That could be it - the teacher could be giving up her free time to help him with his writing 1:1 whilst the other children are out in the playground.
He sees that as a punishment.

The threat of being banned from the end of year prom worked like a charm when my GD1 was in year 11 - ten years ago! But that had not been pre-paid for.
