Listagran, you enquired if my retirement planned for October was cancelled due to Brexit. However, I have to stated several times on this forum that it was cancelled due to a longstanding senior member of staff contracting Ovarian Cancer. She had just gained her higher IOSH industrial safety accreditations that would have allowed her to take over all my responsibilities in the company. In that, we have learned this week that she is now gravely ill.

The above is why yesterday I was encouraging staff to view this thread and have a laugh to raise their spirits. It is also why I genuinely thanked the forum for raising the morale in the office on what was a bleak day, and still do.

However, as we now know, cos he tells us daily, Grandad is working flat out on the Christmas run up, preparing the stockpiling of tinned food in warehouses and underground bunkers. It all sounds hellish clearly such a monumental task is bound to overrun, by the time he finally gets home it'll be late Christmas Day and the turkey will be cold

Warehouses were where my boys disappeared to for such events, although I have to say they didn't go to ingest wholesome tinned food or do anything worthwhile for the fellow human being, more's the pity

Terri Bull, where did I state I was "toiling away single-handed" in a cold warehouse? There are dozens of people working on the site and we are responsible for setting up the safety regime amongst all the chaos.

Likewise as my record on this forum will demonstrate i sometimes post prior to going to work on a morning and then on an evening on return. I sometimes post while on a coffee break but not that often.

Elected as Branch Secretary for a Petro Chemical Road Tanker Transport Branch which was still a lay position but again no women had held such a position at that time.

While holding those positions, Formby acquired the accreditations necessary to become a full time employed District Organiser in the Southampton office for the food and drink sector TGWU.

Formby was then appointed National Coordinating organiser for the above sector in the mid-1980s and was then Quickly appointed Regional Secretary for what was to amalgamate into the Unite Union. That position is the highest that can be obtained while employed in regional offices.

Formby was then appointed National Political Organiser in the TGWU and then Unite Union Central office London.

Formby was then elected by the 48 person Labour Party National Executive Committee as General Secretary of the whole Labour movement a position. Jenny Formby has achieved great success in the first few months in that job of by way of significantly improving procedure and communication between the Labour Party and the wider labour movement in the country for which she had received wide praise.

Some women I believe anniebach, and many other women have progressed in careers in the labour movement in the wake of the groundbreaking that Jenny Formby carried out through all the above years in what was an almost totally dominated male environment in those early years.

And I never said Formby got to be General Secretary of the Labour .psrty because she slept with McCluskey, I did say two women who were tops in the Labour Party were close to McCkuskey and one was the mother of his son, the point being the UNION runs the party

Jenny Formby was a branch secretary, I have no idea when her relationship with McClusky started, their son was born in 1991, she became a Transport and General Workers Union regional officer in 1998 . Is a branch secretary or a regional officer the very top of a career in the unions
