Mr P!

I phoned him recently to say that he would need to drive to were I work, because I couldn't get all of the Amazon delivery parcels in my car.

He asked "why?"

Errm, because the parcels were quite large, and my car (a Smart Roadster) is very small. tchconfused

Then, 2 days later in Lidl, when we had a 6 pack bottle of water in the shopping, I said "I may have to open one of those in a minute"

Again he asked "Why?"

I could have replied that I had forgotten to have a shower before coming out, and was worried that my personal hygiene might not be up to standard, or that my skin was suddenly feeling so dry that only an instant topical application of water would save me from becoming a wrinkled old crone that very moment, but it was actually because I was thirsty!

And breathe...................

Well said phoenix , I think that you have said what many of us have been thinking !

Chewbacca Thu 20-Dec-18 22:32:38

Don't know if anyone else spotted this in the news yesterday but it may be of interest to those of us who work, or have worked with someone, who constantly reports how busy they are; how valuable their work, how important they are; but actually, on closer inspection, it turns out that they spend their day drifting from meeting to meeting and actually produce sod all.

But business school researchers have identified a type of employee who manages to look busy and successful, without actually doing anything useful.

Thank you, it takes quite a bit to get me riled, but he insulted and patronised too many people on here, hence my outburst!

cornergran Thu 20-Dec-18 22:29:50

Well said phoenix. Thank you.

Chewbacca Thu 20-Dec-18 22:27:15

Well said phoenix !

Jalima1108 Thu 20-Dec-18 22:02:11

Well, phoenix, if GNHQ do delete your post then I wonder why they haven't deleted some of Grandad's posts on previous threads which have been extremely rude, untrue and in fact could be libellous?

Oh, I forgot, he doesn't know us either - can you libel someone if you're both using pseudonyms?

phoenix Thu 20-Dec-18 21:58:43

Let's hope it gets read by a few more before it's inevitable deletion!

MawBroon Thu 20-Dec-18 21:57:51

Hear, hear phoenix expressing what many of us have been thinking.
Hope as many people as possible see this before the Misandry and Inclusivity Officer wades in bleating “please miss, poor me, misandry, discrimination, ????”

Jalima1108 Thu 20-Dec-18 21:56:12

Hurray phoenix
I think you speak for many of us!

Humourless pomposity is never an attractive feature.

phoenix Thu 20-Dec-18 21:51:30

Jalima thank you!

phoenix Thu 20-Dec-18 21:49:55

Grandad1943 in my humble opinion, you are a pompous, humourless, annoying person, and I really wish you would just piss off or at least keep your observations and thoughts to threads where they might be at least remotely appropriate.

No doubt this post will be deleted as it will be deemed to be in breach of GN guidelines, but by God, I feel better for posting it!

I like to think that generally I'm a fairly benevolent member of GN, and would usually adopt the "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything" approach, but you have invaded my nasal cavity to such an extent that I have felt compelled to waste some of my precious time writing this post.

Yes, I'm probably "feeding" you, and no doubt you will have a hearty chortle when sharing this with your "friends" ( are they really "friends" ?) in your workplace, but hey ho!

Jalima1108 Thu 20-Dec-18 21:35:13

phoenix your OP was funny and well-meaning and I am sure that lovely Mr P is well able to laugh at himself as are you at yourself.

What a pity your thread has got hi-jacked.

Jalima1108 Thu 20-Dec-18 21:32:11

However, as we found in the office yesterday, those that post in such fashion become targets of laughter in themselves, and rightly so

Are you sure they are laughing at our posts Grandad and not your pompous posts?

Whatever, it is good to bring good cheer to those wasting time in the office beavering away on our behalf at this time of year.

Merry Christmas to all at Grandad's firm and I hope he treats you all to a lovely meal for all your efforts.

My best wishes to your colleague were meant kindly btw.

Lisagran Thu 20-Dec-18 21:26:26

Well said, Terribull

MawBroon Thu 20-Dec-18 21:23:57

What I find distasteful is the degree of “virtue signalling” in Grandad’s posts, bringing in the mention of ovarian cancer as if to defy anyone to take exception to what he is saying,

Does anybody remember “Gamesmanship” a form of one-upmanship designed to wrong foot the opposition?
The example I remember was of somebody I think trying to sell a particularly hideous crocheted loo roll cover and as the customer’s lip begins to curl, adding disingenuously, made by the handicapped”.
Pretty feeble Grandad you clearly have a massive chip on your shoulder and that said, I can’t understand why you waste your time on a site like Gransnet when you could spend all those idle office hours on some hunky chunky truckers’ forum.

Anniebach Thu 20-Dec-18 21:16:33

Great post TerriBull,

TerriBull Thu 20-Dec-18 21:08:11

Grandad - Relationships/marriages are often nuanced and you cannot possibly know how the individual dynamic plays out, none of us can. Life cannot be packaged up according to what you think it should be. Maybe in your world hmm You don't know or understand many of the women on this site, don't judge them. There are a lot of back stories that you won't be aware of. GN can, and is a great moral support for some. This was supposed to he a lighthearted thread, because humour is cathartic. Humour is certainly a driving force in my relationship. I don't need anyone to tell me to appreciate my husband, I already know he's the very best, I also know that humour can help alleviate some of the deepest pain, l learnt that from him when his son from his first marriage died a while back. I've read many heartbreaking accounts on GN I also know that it's provided terrific support for some who have had to live through the very worst of times. I'm damn sure I'd be looking towards some of the women here if I had to endure similar experiences.

We don't know you, or your colleague but there isn't a person on here who wouldn't wish that colleague well.

I just wish you'd take all this perceived misandry bollocks and go and dump it somewhere else, compared to what women have had to put up with and still do it's diddly squat. What makes you come on a site conceived by women for women to nit pick, you have no idea how humourless and self righteous you sound. Your musings smack of male superiority and entitlement and I think you will find we've all had enough of that!

POGS Thu 20-Dec-18 20:44:02

Actually Grandad we have had male posters in the past who have started threads that were tongue in cheek, as this one was supposed to be, who used their humour to instigate a mirror image of pee taking. They never turned threads into charges of misandry , it wouldn't cross their mind probably.

I say in the past we still have some male posters who understand tongue in cheek rhetoric and can quite easily define the ' context' of what passes for tongue in cheek threads. Thank goodness, I wish there were more.

I am glad you are so in tune with your colleagues it must be difficult to join in with banter when you hold what appears to be a juxta position to those you sometimes engage with when it comes to what others deem to be nothing more than banter.
