PJs, Nightie, Onesie.

No shame there Grannyben. I love retirement - get up when I like, stay up as long as I like, where what I like in the privacy of my own home...... and it's definitely into a nightie topped by a lovely warm onesie for the evening lol

Nightie, but not until I go to bed, mostly around 1 am. In the mornings, unless I`m going out early, I don`t get dressed until anytime between 9 and 11 am, but I do wear a kaftan over my nightie in case I need to answer the door.

I’m with you NanKate and Grannyben. Pj’s in bed but shorts not long leggings even in winter. I buy the shorts about 3 sizes too big so no wedgies in bed! When I get up, shorts off as I’m out from under the duvet and softie trousers on and a ‘bed’ cardigan - I can’t bear the restriction of a dressing gown. And that’s me for maybe the whole morning (why not?) until I shower and dress at lunchtime. Obviously earlier if going out. In an evening, if I’m not going back out, it’s ‘softies’ on from late afternoon onwards. Bedtime is back to shorts. But only when I’m getting under the duvet. I like to be comfy! I think post retirement it’s the increase in weight. ....

Aha! Got crafty , and bought a couple of very soft smart tracksuits, put them on whatever time I come in and don’t have to worry in case anyone calls in - no point getting olds if you can get cannier!

I meant to add the top half of the Pjs can’t have bows, buttons or anything to irritate my skin.

I’m very surprised by how many sleep naked. I can’t imagine that being comfortable, and I’d be cold in winter.

I'm another streaker. I don't share my home so I've nobody to scare.
I can't bear to feel hot in bed, even before the menopause started. I have to have cold feet and head.
I have my dressing gown for when I get up. Some days I don't get dressed. Like today. It's been lovely.

Normally, I emerge around 8.30 am and go down to the kitchen for a nice cup of tea. I'd prepare breakfast and lunch, then I go on the internet until around 10 am in my dressing gown.
Things aren't normal at the moment as I'm recovering from dental surgery which is a bit of a drag. I wash and undress for bed at about 11 pm and into my pj's or cotton nightie in summer.

I remember getting dressed under the covers when our children were very small. We lived in a large farmhouse and could only afford to heat a small part of it during the winter.
The children's clothes would hang on the rail of the Aga and they'd get dressed in the kitchen. I used to bath the baby in the kitchen sink.

I've always disliked nighties. I find them cold in the winter and funnily enough not particularly cool in the summer.

I like the way PJs have become a fashion statement and there are so many to choose from hanging on rails in the shops rather than packed in cellophane and having to rely on the picture on the packet to see what they would look like.

Do you gransnetters wear Christmas PJs? Is it to early to dig them out?

Can't bear to be restricted so no night attire at all except my birthday suit, when I go to bed at 10-ish I slip into a good book for about an hour. Lucky enough to have a darling OH who gets up to make tea in the morning, which can be any time between 7.30 and 8.30 depending on when we wake up (or when the cat wakes us up). From bed to shower, then clothes and a touch of make-up to see me through the day, which varies with whatever I happen to be doing.

nor do i give a fig.!! was out feeding the squirrels and birds 11am in my pjs and dressing robe. lazy cow i hear you say. it was my day off and i had a lot of back pain. was easier lying on the sofa all nice and warm with 2 hot water bottles .reading my book......most days am up by 8.30am.....wish i could sleep earlier ,and wake early but it doesnt work like that.before i hit 60 i wouldnt be seen dead in my pjs in the mornings . but then i thought who cares anyway. i often answer the door to postman in nightie and robe...

Hypothermia would set in here if I spent any time at all in nightwear. Sometimes I get undressed and into my nightie in the airing cupboard, because I cant face taking my nice warm clothes off otherwise. In bed by 10 and lights out at 11. Up at 7.18 and straight into clothes, sometimes putting them on under the covers. Window always open, no heating in bedroom. Downstairs first thing to turn up thermostat OH has just turned down on his way past. He turns it back down as he leaves for work, then I turn it back up again.

What a fascinating thread! Makes me feel very staid and old. This novel idea of going back to bed with a cup of tea explains the early traffic on the Hello Monday threads. That has puzzled me for ages! I'd undoubtedly spill my tea on the stairs.
I boringly wake up and get up, and stay up till bedtime. I like cotton nighties and wish they didn't always seem to come in such insipid colours. Does anyone know a good source?

I'm amazed how many people go back to bed as well. I like to get moving even if I curl up in my favourite armchair for my morning cuppa.

Buffybee. I live on a 57ft narrow boat on a lovely river. My retirement adventure when I finally retire...hopefully next year when I get to 68. Oh and agree about insight into others lives....the descriptions have made me smile

I lived on a boat for 20 years, and we did have central heating. We have it in our motohome as well.

"Don't have central heating on my boat", Theoddbird Just threw that into the conversation. How fab living on a boat.
Interesting how this thread about PJ's gives us such insight into other GN's lives.

Nightie, bed socks ( which somehow are always on the bedroom floor come morning) + hot water bottle for my cold feet. Must have a window slightly open and no central heating radiator on. Conjures up a great picture.

I'm very warm in bed so I don't wear anything unless I'm away/in Hospital. Up & dressed 1st thing unless I'm going out later when I put leisure wear on I'm prone to spilling down my front then I will get properly dressed after Breakfast.

If I'm not planning to go out it's leggings & top, fleece if necessary.

Shower last thing & straight to bed, cba to get changed twice but as I'm retired I'm usually in comfortable clothes

I get up at 7.30, breakfast then shower and dress by which time my home help has arrived. Change into nightie and dressing gown after evening meal . Even though I don’t see any one at weekends I still shower and dress and put on my lipstick.

Thank you Yorkshiregirl and Tillybelle and others for endorsing my ‘get your kit off early’ regime.

But everyone to their own and I am pleased so many if us do our own thing, one of the joys of getting older.

I realise that at least two of my pairs of Jim Jams are old and tatty and I need to buy some new ones in the sale.

I also wear pants and socks in the winter. It’s lucky my DH loves me as I look far from alluring, more Hilda Ogden than Marilyn Monroe. ?

Have brekkie in nightwear, usually, Primark leggings (£2.50) and cami top (£1.80) which are suitable for answering the door.
Sometimes wear white cotton pjs or cami and elasticated cuff bottoms. Get dressed only if going out or expecting visitors and as soon as I get home it's shower and nightwear.

Much the same, NanKate, I am in PJs early. Sometimes, because I am in too much pain to get in the shower first thing, I stay in PJs in the morning doing housework especially if it's a bit of a dirty job and then have my shower, throwing PJs into the washing machine and donning my nice clean clothes!

PJs on by 4 pm assuming no company - why not, it's good to be warm and comfortable on these wet, grey days.

Pyjamas or nightie - depends how I feel. Never a onesie - who wants to get undressed to go for a small-hours piddle?
