I'm thinking that our forbears were more intelligent than some " academics " today for all their education and technology.
Many of those who are elderly are well-versed in most things which can only come from the teachings of our parents and past relations ?

Have you heard of the four levels of consciousness, Don’taskme? She was at the lowest stage, unconscious incompetence.

Soon people will be saying "What's a fax?"

I wondered why I hadn't received a hospital appointment so 5 weeks lagter I rang the GP who assured me they had sent off a fax and marked it as urgent.

I rang the clinic and they don't receive faxes.

"I've seen more than one person shopping in pyjamas and slippers."
Especially if they shop in the middle of the night.
Our big Tesco is open nearly 24/7 ( apart for Sat. night).
Yesterday morning the poor girl at the till was nearly falling asleep. She said she'd been on since 5am.

Nor sure that would work Anja I've seen more than one person shopping in pyjamas and slippers.

Last month, I baked a cake to enter in the local farmshop's Apple Day competition. I thought it would be nice to present it on a paper doily so popped into the pound shop.

"What's a doily?" asked the teenage assistant.
"A lacy paper circle you put on a plate under a cake."
Puzzled look as he pulled out his phone.
"How do you spell that?"
"DOILY"
Pause while he Googled images ...
"Oh, yeah, I know. Come with me. I wondered what they were for."

I left with my doilies but feeling rather old. It could have been worse. Antimacassars. smile

Went shopping for Christmas presents today. In TKMaxx I asked a young assistant to "point me in the direction of the nightwear section please". "You what?" . "The nightwear section please". "What are you asking?". "For the nightwear section". "I don't know what you're asking for". By this point I must admit I was getting a bit cheesed off. I speak perfect English. I speak loudly and clearly. What was her problem? Another assistant came over. "What is it you want?".. "Nightwear please". 2nd assistant turned to first assistant and said "SHE is asking for pj's". 1st assistant to me, abruptly "Ah, if you'd called them by their name I'd have know what you wanted". She then led me to a section full of pj's, nighties, slippers and dressing gowns. Hanging above them a big sign saying...…… NIGHTWEAR.
