No rush on Kevins in my local Aldi, shelves still full of them!

Wondering if the photos of stampedes were actually staged as a marketing ploy?

Dontaskme Fri 23-Nov-18 17:20:51

Loads in our local Aldi when we went in but all had been scooped up by the time we left. I have no one to buy them for or I would have done, they are really adorable I'm sorry to say. Its just a bit of fun and who cares if they are a five minute wonder, in those five minutes they're wonderful to someone. I got a roll of Kevin wrapping paper as my DH is amused by the ads and I loved the fake coke lorry one smile

I wish that I had stockpiled some Cabbage Patch dolls. I just searched Ebay, and this came up!

There were loads of Kevins, Pascals and story books in our Aldi this morning. No one was buying them. No one seems to be buying them on eBay either. I don't know where these rumours have come from but I'm sure Aldi do!

Thanks for the link Anniebach ... I had to laugh when I saw the message about the Aldi in URMSTON! Just glad I’m over in Malaga right now ??

What a stupid inane advert on the t.v.

Rosina Fri 23-Nov-18 14:58:54

I remember the Teletubbies frenzy; I didn't have grandchildren then but a friend, who is probably the most dignified and regal woman I know, had a handbag fight in Woolworth's to claim the last 'Tinky Winky' for her grandson. After that little episode I would believe anything I hear about toy fights in shops at Christmas!

satire111 Fri 23-Nov-18 14:41:52

I fully agree its just a carrot and its all advertising hype which I dislike however my daughter and granddaughter popped in last night and my dad who has vascular dementia loved the carrots etc now he has no knowledge of who kevin is yet just loved the toys he actually laughed for five minutes in what hasn't been the best weeks so I can only say its a funny old world

Sadly mental inadequacy becomes more and more common. Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause?

Kateykrunch Fri 23-Nov-18 13:13:37

Btw....Pascals scowl is a bit like my hubbys!

Kateykrunch Fri 23-Nov-18 13:12:28

Oh dear! Pascal the parsnip may have been a mistake!, he is waiting for our Twin GC age 6 to come home from school, he definitely doesn’t like Kevin (and I have ordered Kevin, Katey, Jasper, Chanteney and Baby). Its a bit of fun....Pascal, Pascal, put that down! Lol x

Yesterday whilst shopping in Aldi the lady in front of me in the queue had two baskets full of these toys.

Anniebach Fri 23-Nov-18 11:50:47

I want one ?

Yep my daughter says theres some kevin the carrots on ebay already for up to £900! What the heck??And yet my little grandaughter cant get one-not even the storybook.its blooming ridiculous! Yes i too remember the ugly cabbage patch dolls- none of my kids wanted em thank goodness.(i think i won a gonk at a fair tho)and the ominous monster high dolls?my other daughter calls them 'death dolls' so wont buy them for her 8yr old!

Aepgirl Fri 23-Nov-18 11:31:30

My nephew who always thought if himself as an 'entrepreneur' once bought a huge number of some talking toy (I have no idea which one) in order to sell them on eBay. He still has them all.

Jane43 Fri 23-Nov-18 11:24:09

I saw these in the trolleys of people in Aldi this morning. I didn’t realise they were so sought after as they were around last year or the year before. Some people will buy anything, they will be on EBay soon.

Yes I remember the Cabbage Patch dolls and further back in the seventies Gonks, all of them hideous. When I was a child I had two dolls and a teddy bear, nothing else, and I loved them all.

EllanVannin Fri 23-Nov-18 11:16:39

The sweetness of carrots in a home-made chicken soup is just something else. I enjoyed a big pan of it this week. Better than any toy carrot !

EllanVannin Fri 23-Nov-18 11:12:58

Pity kids didn't eat the real thing.

Margs Fri 23-Nov-18 11:12:32

Anybody recall the tales of terrible behaviour in toyshops when Cabbage Patch dolls were the 'must have' one particular year?

And they were so dreadfully ugly dolls. They looked like the kind of thing you would give to a child you hated!

Oakleaf Fri 23-Nov-18 11:03:08

I think of those hard-nosed Aldi marketing executives sitting in a meeting talking about how they can trump Iceland's recent anti-palm oil marketing coup and win back the Christmas shoppers. Oh yeah! A carrot made from petro-chemicals. And let's tell the punters that sales will help the Teenage Cancer Trust. Yeah, that'll get them queuing and fighting one another - a nice example to set their children.

Never forget that every toxic product manufactured is contributing to the rise in teenage cancer rates. Better that Aldi donate five million directly to the trust than manipulate customers into buying a piece of crap that will be in landfill come summer.

It's foolish but I find it a kind of amusing bit of fun. An obvious proviso is, of course, that NOBODY is hurt in the scrummage.

moobox Fri 23-Nov-18 10:56:40

DH happened to be in Aldi first thing on Thursday, and came home bemused and said everyone was buying carrots - long ones. Then I eventually realised what he meant as I happened to have read about Kevin toys.

Urmstongran Fri 23-Nov-18 10:49:05

I think they’re cute! I can understand why children would like a bunch of them. ??

Nannan2 Fri 23-Nov-18 10:47:00

I know its crazy!my youngest grandaughter wanted one last yr(she was just 4)and couldnt get one- probably the same this yr! Its because of stupid greedy adults putting them on ebay for profit that genuine CHILDREN(whom theyre surely meant for?)cannot get them!angry

KatyK Fri 23-Nov-18 10:39:17

Yes!
