Advice about West Acton

What's safe? it's in London as am I. I think where I live is great but an elderly lady was murdered round the corner from me several months ago, so it wasn't safe for her, murdered by someone she knew and trusted in her own home. It hasn't put me off where I live but I can imagine someone moving here might well be put off.

Some places that were thought to be a bit 'rough' years ago are up and coming now.

Hi Flexible friend, sorry to hear about your neighbour, thnx for your reply. I do see your point but it is also true that some areas of London are more family orientated and better to walk around than others. I'm out of touch, only get internet news which is always pretty scary actually. Hard to find true picture. I have checked out crime statistics but have nothing to compare them to.
Does anyone have any advice about Acton/Ealing near the common and the primary schools in the area?

West Acton sounds like a rather transient place:
Cheap with plenty of traveller house shares & kiwi/Aussie bars

If you are a family looking to meet and socialise with neighbours, enjoy the community activities, it might not be the best place for you. Could you live further out?

Thnx Jalimall108, checked the link out, Ealing rates 2 out of 5, for safety, Acton 3 out of 5, not as good as I'd like.
Anyone know about the schools, appreciate I can go on the local school websites but any first hand experience is always best I think.

No, sorry; we don't live there although we did live in GL area many years ago.

If there are lots of Aussie/Kiwi bars your DD may find West Acton buzzing thought, although you may want something different.

I do not live far from Acton and I know that transport links are not particularly good. I do not know about supermarkets etc.

I live in a supposedly "good" part of NW London, within walking distance of a famous public school but recently we have had our share of stabbings and shootings and the last stabbing was too close for comfort.

Be aware also of flight paths to Heathrow. I have escaped that.

Younger friends have mentioned Balham as being a good place to live; it wasn't particularly nice when we lived up that way, but 'up and coming' now I think.

Can you rent for a while so that you can suss out various areas?

I live in Ealing and know the geography of the area well. It was a nice area with leafy roads and nice houses but like all areas of London things happen everywhere.
You will struggle traffic wise as you are in a stones throw of the A40 a main arterial route into town and there is a very large industrial estate a couple of miles away. A lot of new flats are being built along the A40 also increasing the traffic even more.

I don’t know about the schools now as my children are now in their 40s ?. Having said all that I’ve lived in different parts of Ealing for 50 yrs and it’s a very leafy borough with some lovely places shops and eateries I’ve enjoyed living here but I have to admit the traffic problem is making me really think I need to move somewhere less busy.

A good place to stay maybe in Ealing Broadway there are travel lodge and premier inn there or independent hotels close by. Good luck with your search please don’t let me put you off do come see for yourself.
