What have ^you^ got plugged in this morning?

I thought the whole point of a white meter and cheaper electricity between 10pm and 6am was to run the dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer overnight?
It's all very daunting if you follow every fear.....what about leaving the woodburner on overnight or when you go out?
However, I have recently bought several 'surge resistant'' extension leads as our tv was ruined one day by an electricity surge while I was out.

I've used radio, TV, dishwasher, washing machine, kettle several times, charged iphone, hair dryer and lastly GHDs

I never charge phone or tablet overnight because they don't need to charge that long .....

Stree, I am riveted...what is a cheese sharpener? Environmentalists says that you should not leave phones, tablets etc charging overnight never mind the Firebrigade!

Since we got up we have used the coffee grinder and the kettle, turned on the TV and lights in the rooms where we are sitting or working, maximum two lights at a time. Now I am using my laptop, which is plugged into the mains and have just printed an invoice for our insurance from my electronic post box.

That's the lot, as our phones are fully charged.

Oh, and my DH still takes the unplugging very seriously. Which is why we once came back from three weeks away to a hideous smell and a freezer half full of some horrible stinking primordial soup.

We never leave phones or tablets plugged in overnight, don't even like leaving them plugged in if I go out for a few hours.

Nannan, a woman after my own heart! I’m forever banging on about the public information films, and the fact that we remember them so well shows that they worked. I was coming on here myself to reference “The Bedtime Routine”. ? Of course people skip through ads now, but if I was in charge I’d have one public information film shown just before every film screened at the cinema. All together now....Litter, litter, everywhere, it gets in your feet.....

I would never leave anything charging overnight (friend's house burnt down and they were lucky to escape with their lives!) I would also never leave the washing machine (or tumble dryer if I had one) running overnight, but I do leave the fridge, freezer etc switched on.

Charge my mobile and laptop as soon as I get up, plus toothbrush if necessary.

Plugged in this morning, kettle, toaster, TV, tablet. Obviously fridge/ freezer only switched off when cleaning/ defrosting it. Washing machine has pre set option, so when using it set it before bedtime to start at 6am.

Cheese sharpener plugged in first thing, along with the ear lights so we know where the dog is in the cellar

If we had a smart meter my OH would be standing over it 24/7 if things where left charging overnight,he would be a nightmare in himself.

The dog's washing machine? How does he pay the bill?

Had phone charging over night. Just have tv on now. I flick all switches off at night and when I leave my boat...can't risk a fire in this metal tube.

I pad and phone charges overnight and the batteries have just gone on my smoke alarm must get that sorted today no wonder we get large bills!!

Tanith I recently upgraded my mobile, one of the luxuries I have allowed myself .It specifically says in its instructions Do Not Leave on charge overnight. I consider this a safety factor.

My son tells me the chargers still use power even if some phone or gadgets not attached to them,so i try to unplug those to save money- so you may want to rethink that one Buffybee?as do my washer/dryer sockets- but as for rest- yes it would drive me to distraction if someone unplugged them all everynight and id to go round plugging them all back when i needed them- however do you manage about the fridge or freezer Liz08?? It must take your OH a long time to get to bed every night going around unplugging things.?

Electricity isn't always kept powering on an even keel and there are tendencies for surges now and again thus causing explosions/fires while re-charging mobile phones.
If I had a mobile phone I wouldn't leave it charging overnight. Nor would leave a tumble-dryer going for any length of time.
I have comparatively new wiring etc and one morning woke up with no lights as that part of the wiring had fused during the night with no apparent problem with anything on that circuit other than a surge at the main " grid ". Just a switch now to regain power and no fiddling about with fuse wires etc. hahaha.

Kettle...that's it. I never use my laptop or notebook and mobile lasts longer than 24hrs even with heavy use.
Fridge/freezer are always on and I disconnect everything else from the sockets when I go out, even lamps. Vacuum gets a 4 hour charge when it runs out but I don't leave it plugged in beyond that. I only need to hoover once a week.

I leave everything plugged in permanently, iPad and iPhone charged overnight but I never unplug the chargers.
It would drive me crazy someone going round unplugging and turning off sockets.
Funnily , the only thing I don't do, is leave any washing or drying on overnight!
But the dishwasher goes on last thing. ?

I think maybe they should bring back the BBC public information films- there were a few i seem to recall,about the 'stranger danger' - warning children not to speak to 'strange looking' strangers,and to keep away from playing in or near deep water etc,and one about road safety i think,as well as the one about preventing fires- maybe theyre a bit out- dated but surely they could bring out updated more modern versions of these to do the same job??If some people still remember them(i cant be the only one) they MUST have done some good?children today dont have many guidelines or 'reminders' like these- yes we tell them as parents&grandparents but they look on it as 'nagging' mostly.....

I was only a little kid at the time- but does anyone else remember the public information film about unplugging everything at night where the family used to go around all the house(in dressing gowns/pyjamas)singing a song about it?"the tv set should be unplugged,last thing thing every night"-i often tell my youngest sons about it(theyre 20&15)as a warning about leaving all their 'stuff' plugged in,but it resulted in eldest turning off ALL the plugs when we went on holiday- i noticed the freezer&put it back on,but when i got home realised he had unplugged tv&sky too,so had nothing recorded at all from while we were away!

I only have a phone and a tablet to recharge but never ever leave them charging overnight, they have been known to catch fire.
