Night driving

There is a thread on Mumsnet about the glare of oncoming headlights and how difficult that is to deal with, and several posters recommended night driving glasses - they are an amber/yellow colour.

I have just ordered myself a pair (in the overglasses version, for going over prescription glasses) and am hoping this might prove to be useful.

Just thought I would flag this up with everyone in case it might be useful for others.

I have an anti-glare coating on my usual prescription driving glasses.

DH has a pair of the yellow night time ones and finds them helpful. His pair have lenses at the sides too.

Our particular problem at this time of year is glare from the sun dropping low. It was so bright yesterday afternoon that neither my good sunglasses nor DH’s driving sunglasses were much use. DH got some relief from pulling the sun visor on the windscreen down, but I am so short in my seat that mine is useless.

I think that's a fabulous idea. I've never heard of such things myself, but I do know that as we get older our eyes are more sensitive to glare.

I wonder if it would be possible to eventually start lobbying vehicle manufacturers to create headlight bulbs that are easier on the eyes to reduce glare.

I have used them for the first time this evening - very pleased so far.

My dh was told by his optician recently that these tinted glasses are not legal as the tint is too dark.
Ps I dislike driving in the dark too.

We don’t like night driving now, but I do wish that it was mandatory for cyclists to have lights and to wear something reflective on their clothing. So many are on the roads in black/ dark clothes and are practically invisible.
