Oh dear I seem to have misplaced my usual stoic calm. I've had some health problems recently and I think the sedation I had at the hospital earlier this week has left me feeling rather fragile. This whole time of Remembrance is always difficult, but I'm not normally undone by it and yet this year has been particularly hard. I haven't even felt able to join in with local events because I know I'll just cry the whole time. I avoided the big commemoration service in town on Friday and went alone to place my poppies afterwards. A poor lady saw my tears and asked if I was okay and I ended up sobbing as I explained that it would have been my daughter's wedding anniversary, but her husband was killed in Afghanistan. I think I ruined her day, but she was very kind.

And now I'm on tenterhooks waiting for my son to call with news of my lovely daughter-in-law who is two days short of her due date and had severe haemorrhaging in the night. She's now in hospital and labour has started, but I'm anxious rather than excited. We've picked up their dog and brought him home with us (he's very used to staying here) and although he is usually very calm and placid he is now nervously pacing and whining around the room; he's obviously picked up on everyone's anxiety. Having texted earlier fairly regularly my son has not sent or responded to a text for almost two hours now and I can't help but worry.

The Wonderful Man is throwing himself into doing jobs around the house, but I know that it's displacement activity because he's anxious. I've tried to keep busy, but now all I can do is watch my phone - and pray!

hope you hear ‘good news’ soon grannyactivist and that you return to good health soon. I used to feel this way on Remembrance Day when my youngest was in the same sandy place. poppyDo you think it will help if your family’s new addition is born today? Take care tears are a good release but leave you exhausted brew and cupcake

That's good news GA sounds like all will be well.
I have the same sadness today as my son in law died as a result of the Gulf War. Time has elapsed now and its easier but sad his children never got to know him, he was one of the good guys.

Had a text from my son to say they've been for a wander round the suite as daughter-in-law was allowed off the monitor for a while. Such a relief to hear from him. The doctor was going to assess at 2.30pm so should hear next news very soon. I was at the hospital for my other grandchildren's births and it's much more worrying to be waiting for news at home. The soon-to-be mum and dad (understandably) don't want any other family or friends to know that things are happening as they know that they would be inundated with messages, so I can't even chat to my mother-in-law who usually shares my moments of angst with me.
Good job you lovely lot are here to hand hold and listen to me burbling. Thanks chums. flowers

What a lot has been happening for you - it's no wonder you're feeling so fragile. I'm sure the labour is progressing well and your DIL is in the best possible hands. It's natural you're anxious waiting for news - I was the same when my first GS arrived in NZ 5 years ago. Texting his mum was the last thing on my son's mind until it was all over and I'm sure it will be the same for you. Sending good wishes for a safe delivery flowers

Grannyactivist hold on, you are obviously a very kind and caring person, don't feel bad for that. I'm sure everything will turn out fine soon with your DIL and you will be on cloud nine with your new addition to your family. Today I think we are feeling a bit tender, it's a day to remember, for good (for you) and not so good for what we are all remembering. flowers poppy

Love, hugs and prayers from me too. It’s such an emotional and desperately worrying time for you. Of course your stoicism has gone walkabout, not surprising. Try the deep breathing mentioned upthread, may seem trivial, it’s a yoga technique and may help. Take care of yourself please and we’ll hope for good news soon.

Jane10 Sun 11-Nov-18 13:45:29

Soon you'll have the wonderful news about a little addition to your family to love and cherish and this horrible feeling will be over. I expect its all systems go at the hospital and texting is the last thing on your son's mind.
Please let us know how things go so we can rejoice along with you just as we are sharing your anxious time.

Grammaretto Sun 11-Nov-18 13:27:02

I'm glad you were able to share your fears.
I hope baby arrives safely.
We went through the same 3 years ago.
She is a lively 3 yr old now and her mum has completely recovered.
Sending loveflowers
