The most annoying phrases heard in your house!

And coming in at number 1, is "You should have left that, I would have done it"

This is usually applied to clearing up, washing up, emptying/loading the dishwasher, and nearly always used just as any of the aforementioned tasks have been completed.hmm

And, at number 2 is "Oh, I didn't know that you saving/wanted that." This can be applied to many things, but that cold sausage ( or sometimes in my case, a cold onion bahjee blush) that you were really looking forward to can almost justify some sort of physical reaction, especially if insult has been added to injury by leaving the EMPTY greasy plate in the fridge angry

And, although this isn't a phrase, so I am guilty of deviating from my own OP, I dont think that leaving the hall light on so that I could actually see the cat vomit and avoid stepping in it, goes anywhere near to actually getting a bit of kitchen roll and cleaning it up!

We’ll both be watching the television but then he’ll get bored and decide to do something else (very short attention span!) as he gets up he’ll pick up the remote control and say ‘Do you still want this on?’ Why would I not want the TV on just because he’s decided not to watch it? It drives me crazy every time. He’s also frequently switched the light off as he leaves the room and left me in the dark!

"I'm coming up now" when I have just announced I'm on my way up to bed.
It's nearly always an hour later, and sometimes 4:30 am before he actually comes to bed!

BBbevan Tue 23-Oct-18 19:24:15

' I'll just be five minutes". When you have said dinner is ready, you are waiting to go out etc

petra Tue 23-Oct-18 19:09:19

"You put that there"
This usually involves his shed or the desk as in, he's looking for something, can't find it, asks me if I've seen 'it'
I go to said shed or desk and there 'it' is.
The one that usually ends up with the cold silence is: "She said" as in the satnav when I know that 'she's' directed us wrong.

"Oh, I meant to do that..." may yet result in murder.

Fflaurie Tue 23-Oct-18 18:32:11

'we' are not bothering with Christmas presents this year are 'we'?
My sense of smell is so much better than yours, you will need to buy more milk
No I didnt know the cat had just pooed in the litter
You just don't know how to : stack the dishwasher/load the washing machine/ set the tumble dryer/ etc properly.......
Now that I am retired you only have to ask me......
No, I didnt dust round while you were at work, it doesn't need it...........
shall I go one????

With my late husband it was mainly driving related. "No need to use the satnav. I know the way" before getting hopelessly lost. " We don't need to stop and ask directions. It must be down here somewhere" It never was. Refusing to turn back, "If we turn left up here, we are bound to hit the right road." No we are not. Also, his refusal to stop for fuel until we were down to the last spoonful.
Car journeys aren't half as much fun now!

Oh gmelon that is scary. Once each side would be enough. I am resting, I disappear each afternoon to my bedroom and invariably end up fast asleep for at least an hour, but I am not known for my patience and sitting too long makes me stiff so it is finding the right balance at the moment.
The problem with OH is that he seriously can't see an issue. He says my standards are too high, something not usually said ever about my housekeeping. hmm

Is there any more tea left in the pot? heard at least twice a day.

mcem Tue 23-Oct-18 17:47:56

Not at home as I have the luxury of living alone but ....... am I the only one on GN to be irritated by the increasing use of " Don't get me started on ....." or "political correctness gone mad" ??

VIOLETTE, sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It is not a subject of which I have any knowledge. May I suggest that you start a new thread so that more people will see and reply. Go to 'Forums', select 'Health' heading and then 'start a new discussion'. I hope you will get reassurance from those with experience of this condition.

Steph5108 Tue 23-Oct-18 16:18:58

‘BUT’... at the start of every sentence, regardless of what is being said! ?

joannapiano Tue 23-Oct-18 16:09:46

A bit like Greyduster, for twenty years he said, “I’m not deaf, it’s the tone of your voice.” Now has hearing aids and the Audiologist said that he has lost all the sound range for speech!

VIOLETTE Tue 23-Oct-18 15:58:42

Not sure where to post ...just need some advice please. Just been diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy ....really scared ...has anyone else had this diagnosis and what happens ? Thanks

David1968 Tue 23-Oct-18 15:34:43

"I can't find my glasses....."

HillyN Tue 23-Oct-18 14:23:25

Can I add to all your VERY familiar annoying phrases one of my own? On my return from the hairdresser, OH appraises my hairdo with "It's a bit short, isn't it? Oh well, at least you won't have to have it done again quite so soon." hmm

Bathsheba Tue 23-Oct-18 14:15:03

"I don't go on and on at you about things I want you to do!" No, because you don't have to. Asking me once to do something is usually enough, so no need to keep repeating yourself. Whereas with you....

rocketstop Tue 23-Oct-18 14:12:01

Oh Phoenix, if we had a tenner for every time, nay even just a pound for every time we have heard No.1 on your list, we would be able to afford to hire help to negate the need for 'leaving it' !!!
It really does drive you mad.

lilypollen Tue 23-Oct-18 14:04:17

Him "do you fancy any lunch?"
Me "I'm not hungry at the moment thanks"
"I'm having cheeses on toast would you like some?"
"No thanks"
"Are you sure you wouldn't like some?"

He can't take no for an answer.

The other is "is this rubbish or recycling?"

paddyann Tue 23-Oct-18 13:55:15

when the kids were teenagers "I'll do it in a minute" of course I'd do it before they got round to it

LuckyFour Tue 23-Oct-18 13:49:35

One of the things that annoys me every day. He will be sat on the sofa in the lounge and I am in the kitchen. He speaks, I can't hear what he's saying so I have to stop making lunch/dinner etc and come in to ask what he's saying. He never speaks up or comes into the kitchen to tell me. He doesn't understand why I get annoyed.

grandtanteJE65 Tue 23-Oct-18 13:36:55

Well, at least, Grannygravy, yours tells you WHEN he will do it, mine just says, "I'll see to that" and he does not think it funny when I ask, "When?" having learnt many moons ago that when a man says he will do something, he is stating his intention, but not whether he intends to do it, this year, next year, sometime, or never?

Patticake123 Tue 23-Oct-18 13:35:45

Are we both married to the same man?!,,,,,,,

bunny17 Tue 23-Oct-18 12:59:53

This made me smile lol....

Nandalot Tue 23-Oct-18 12:38:42

Phoenix, your top scorer is so familiar. Except it is said my DD who, her twins, spends a lot of time with us and says “I was just about to do that”.
