The most " insidious" thing is undermining concepts of fairness and equality by underplaying the importance of language in casual ravcisim/ sexism etc. This is done by pretending , & then ridiculing, the idea that changing "mansize" is done for reasons of equality. I suspect it is mainly done for sales & profit under the guise of equality!

When I trained as a social worker a fellow student was politely told that we shouldn't use the expression "nit picking" because it originated from slavery and people being transported in the bottom of ships and being riddled with nits!
