Like most people I wish the couple well - I think what people are objecting to is the carriage ride which means there has to be additional security - not just for them but for the people who turn out to watch (although with the weather forecast I don't think there will be many).

Fennel her name is not Eugenics , so your comment means nothing. Just because someone's name is a bit like a similar word, you can't then say " oh look what her name means" when it obviously doesn't .

ThanksGranny23 Saw this earlier and then couldn't find it to post here.I get really peed off at the assumption we're all scroungers living off England when the facts show the main reason Westminster wants to hold onto us is because they cant survive without us .Of course you'll see lots who will dispute these figures even though they've been validated .

Dammit! I forgot to send them a card........

Sorry to be so late in responding to Cakebaker but I do think it is she who needs to do some research. Here is a starter for her

In fact, Eugenie is quite high up in the firm she works for and that doesn’t happen without hard work.

I have a sneaky feeling her royal connections might have something to do with her being "quite high up" in her art gallery job Phoebes. For instance, anyone else in the world of "hard work" wouldn't be able to take 25 days holiday in their first 10 weeks of starting a job. And her equally "hard working" sister, Beatrice, had 8 holidays in 15 months! Yep, you're right! Those girls are wage slaves! grin

Phoebes Thu 11-Oct-18 23:35:29

Chewbacca: What I meant was that they both work
for a living and anyone who has a job and doesn’t want to lose it has to work hard. It is pointless to compare their jobs with care assistants and nurses, like comparing chalk and cheese, and a totally misleading comparison. In fact, Eugenie is quite high up in the firm she works for and that doesn’t happen without hard work.

I'm just loving the idea of a 'blood princess' as Prince Andrew likes to call her, eloping to a kibbutz.

I think the comedy spoof The Windsors, would have a field day with that one.

MissAdventure Thu 11-Oct-18 23:27:50

I'm quite astounded that people would camp out to watch the wedding.
Who are these people that do??

Jalima1108 Thu 11-Oct-18 23:27:02

I hope it's not too swimmingly MissA - the weather forecast is not good.
I wouldn't wish that on any bride.

merlot very sensible indeed wine

merlotgran Thu 11-Oct-18 23:24:36

Ha Ha jalima. I've had a message from DD and DGD who have golden tickets to say that people are camped out in the street, the outside broadcast vehicles are all in place and everyone has to be at the gate, ready to queue by 7am.

How do they know? They're tucked up in a comfy hotel room with a bottle of wine!

I think it’s great that she and Beatrice both work hard for a living and generally have normal lives.

Eh? Work hard? Like a care assistant in a care home on minimum wage? Or a nurse on a 12 hour shift? Don't think so! Personally, I don't give a rats as to whether either of them get married, live together or elope to a kibbutz; its their life to live as they wish but I do take issue with either one of them claiming to "work hard".

MissAdventure Thu 11-Oct-18 23:20:18

I'm sure her day will go just swimmingly despite people moaning. smile
A good moan is all I have to look forward to these days.

Jalima1108 Thu 11-Oct-18 23:16:47

I'm grumpy because my invitation seems to have got lost in the post.
But I shall be quite happy with NanKate's doggy bag, a bottle of champagne and a corgi.

Phoebes Thu 11-Oct-18 23:12:24

Well! I know we are supposed to get grumpier as we get older, but what a miserable lot of old moaners most of you Gransnetters are! You should be ashamed! Get your facts right! Eugenie and her immediate family are paying for this wedding. It is not costing us anything. Obviously there have to be high levels of security because the Queen and the heir to the throne are going to be present, but that would be the same wherever they were. Everywhere the senior royals go, the security levels have to be exceptionally high, for obvious reasons and you wouldn’t expect the Queen not to go to her own granddaughter’s wedding, would you? It’s not Eugenie’s fault that she is a member of the royal family and I think it’s great that she and Beatrice both work hard for a living and generally have normal lives. In fact they seem like a nice normal pair of girls, in spite of the ups and downs they have gone through with their parents’ divorce. I am not a mad royalist, but I think it is totally wrong that there are so many nasty and ill-informed comments on Gransnet and I hope Eugenie and her fiancé don’t read them. (Can’t think why they would!) This is her big day and I hope it is a lovely one and not spoilt by all the moaning! Get a grip!

I once met a young girl in a school where I was doing some work. The children were wearing name badges to help me with who was who. The girls badge said Eugenie so I said hello You-jhenee. No ,said she, it is Oh zha nay blush

NanKate Thu 11-Oct-18 21:09:35

Jalima I will have one of the doggy bags delivered to you personally by one of her Maj’s corgis.

I hope the bride and her sister are better dressed than they were at was it William’s or Charles wedding? That was when one of them wore an aerial on her head. I told you I was very critical of the clothes.

merlotgran Thu 11-Oct-18 21:06:20

Just exactly what does a Tequila Ambassador do? Is it a posh term for sales rep?

Anniebach Thu 11-Oct-18 20:58:34

Beatrice is named after Queen Victoria’s youngest daughter and that Beatrice was the mother of Beatrice Eugenie

Fennel Thu 11-Oct-18 20:21:57

I've always been puzzled by her name. From Wiki::
"Eugenics (/juːˈdʒɛnɪks/; from Greek εὐγενής eugenes 'well-born' from εὖ eu, 'good, well' and γένος genos, 'race, stock, kin')[2][3] is a set of beliefs and practices that aims at improving the genetic quality of a human population.[4][5] "
A very unusual choice.

PECS Thu 11-Oct-18 19:47:06

My bursar always had plenty of strawberries and cream when it was Wimbledon fortnight that she ate whilst she watched tennis in her lunch hour!

Jalima1108 Thu 11-Oct-18 19:35:53

Just save me a doggy bag please NanKate

Jalima1108 Thu 11-Oct-18 19:35:24

I could spend the day swigging from a bottle of champagne - if anyone at school questions me, I'll just say I'm celebrating the wedding.

PECS Thu 11-Oct-18 18:40:13

I would class myself as a republican though I do not wish individual royals any harm. You won't find me knitting by a guillotine!
I have little time for any over- privileged folk who do not appear to give back to society in any way. It would appear Eugenie & her sister move in these circles.
No doubt I will see something of the wedding on the news but not planning to watch it specifically.

NanKate Thu 11-Oct-18 18:39:34

You would be very welcome Jalima. Perhaps you could video it and watch it with a glass of something fizzy. ?
