Growing up so fast!

Instead of one of us reading a story to 6 year old DGD today she read a book to us (well, to Grandad in fact). The only problem was that it soothed Grandad off to sleep and he snored.

I too feel that the years are passing too fast, my dgd is almost 6 and left babyhood well behind. She rolls her eyes and says 'grandma' , with an amused expression when I say something old fashioned. They aren't planning any more so I must make the most of this

My 16-year-old GD is 'petite', much to her disgust! However, what she lacks in height she makes up for in personality and ability. She got a motor scooter for her 16th birthday a couple of weeks ago and is now loose on the road. She helps to run the Cubs and is an Army Cadet, one of those chosen to accompany the Lord Lieutenant of the County to ceremonial occasions. I wish I could show a picture of her in her 'number 2' uniform, but the photo on facebook is available only to friends. It seems only a moment since she was a 'pink princess' complete with tiara, albeit climbing trees in her frilly frock!

Photos taken of DGD the day she was born show her with a worried expression on her face. She had exactly the same expression on her face this September in a photo of her in her new school uniform on the day she started at secondary school.

Where did the intervening 11 years go to?

My 21 year old granddaughter has now been living with her boyfriend for 2 years and her sister will be 17 next month and learning to drive. It doesn't seem 5 minutes since they were parading around in my shoes and playing with dolls.

Grown so fast and making us feel so old!

My 12 year old GS is only an inch shorter than me. Because he started walking at 9months he used to be able to run about under all our tables. It doesn't seem possible now!

My 11 year old DGD is taller than me! A beautiful young lady. My youngest DGS will be 6 at the end of the month. Where has the time gone.

Wait till you ve got a 6ft built like a brick whatsit grandson towering over you

I know how you feel Witzend my eldest granddaughter is 28 and has just got her first mortgage, that's scary .

My lovely GD has just gone off to uni. Seems only five minutes since she was born.

I was tying back a little girl’s hair in my class, and I had a jolt of memory, remembering tying back my eldest daughter’s hair at about the same age, nearly thirty years earlier. I think it was the chestnut- brown hair, and the feeling of it, warm and silky, and the slight resistance of the hair bobble. It made me feel quite sad.

I often think along these lines too, as I'm sure we all do. My 12 year old GS towers above all of us, his parents included, and I can't get my head around it. He was just a little boy only the other day..... wasn't he?

Mine are all taller than me now!

Indeed. That tall 9:year-old was a little boy of four five minutes ago. The girl who will be in the juniors next year is a baby, isn’t she?

I seem to notice it much more with the grandchildren than I ever did with my own. I suppose I was too busy bringing them up to notice.
