Your call is important to us - Really?

I am holding on for English Heritage and several times have been thanked for my patience. No, I'm not patient! Why do they all say the same things? At least if they said something different it would make the wait less tedious. Any suggestions? Mine are: Thanks for holding on, we know it is a pain but please, just a little longer and we hope that we can finally get to you. Or: Yes, we know you are fed up but have you tried working in a call centre?

Why do they all suggest we look at their website? I did that, told them I had moved but they haven't updated my address so I have to call them. Do they really think we choose to hang on endlessly if we had an alternative?!?

Still thanking me for my patience....................

.... and just as you shout at the recording (I am not b**** patient!) a human voice cuts in!

Laughing because I have worked in many call centres over the years and have been on the other end of what Nonna describes many times.

We were never offended, we know how long the call queue is too!

I wonder if they deliberately make it a long wait so we will go away?

I was pleasantly surprised the other day. I had to get in touch with Argos via the phone because my question could not be answered online.

I was told the number of people in front of me, around 6 and the time it would take. They were well out with their timing but I found it helpful to know that there 6 in front and not 106.

DD was trying to make a physio appointment yesterday using the land line
"Please hold, you are 9th/8th/7th.......in the queue"
25mins later she got an answer in the mean time she'd had a conversation with someone else on her mobile.
I agree with you about "check out our web site" I'm only calling because your website is useless and and I can't find what I want !

Its awful waiting listening to the same message when the problem can't be sorted on line I have had to do it a couple of times lately nad I have ended up talking to myself.
I can see both sides though as hard working DD works in a call centre with regard to Premium Bonds & Investments she is talked down to many times by people think she does a worthless job but her job is very important and governed by very strick codes of practice and training and calls can take a while to complete hense the queues, all her calls are recorded and she would loose her job if she responded to some of the customers who rant and swear at her during the course of the day.
