So glad to hear that cherries in liqueur are back in Aldi. did not see them yesterday will have ago next weekend. They are delicious and make excellent presents for people who call in at Christmas with with goodies they have made. I can give them a box in return. Marvelous.

Oh, NO! I haven't an Aldi anywhere near...may I prevail upon someone equally good-hearted to investigate Lidl and see whther they are selling 'Spekulaas' (or sometime they market them as 'spiced biscuits'), cherries in liquer, gingerbread with icing and similar products on my behalf?
Rider: I am disabled and carless, so a trip to Lidl would invariably mean that anything I purchased would be eaten whilst waiting for the once an hour bus on the way back...

Seriously though! When I mentioned that I would be happy to receive a Scottish C-Hamper I was immediately informed that the C-word was banned on Gransnet until at least November.

I much prefer Charbonnel et Walker truffles and my Hotel Chocolat selections which arrive every month. Superb, and more than a one bite treat (as so many of the cheaper chocolates are)
You get what you pay for. I prefer quality over quantity any day.

I'll be dropping in to Aldi on my way back from the garden centre and I will certainly test the praline and salted caramel selections. There's a product called 'Waves' on the top shelf of the chocolate section. These are shaped rather like Pringles but come in various flavours, of which salted caramel is my favourite - but beware! they are dangerously moreish! If I have those in my C....stocking, I will finish them before breakfast.

And you ate them all! You did not stint, thinking, "one little nibble will suffice." no! As I am near a Sainsburys I will start testing all their Christmas treats. I shall also do Hotel Chocolat because I adore their special Christmas chocolates. All the results will be duly reported back to you Chewy in due course. So this is your No. 1 tester reporting for duty!!

I think Beech's Chocolates make some traditional chocolates for the supermarkets & M&S.
On their own website they have Coffee, Mint, Raspberry, Ginger, Lime, Orange, Rose, Summer Stawberry, Pineapple, Violet & Lemon creams! And boxes of those little chocolate teddies that only rich relations bought us at Christmas....

So grateful for you thinking of us all in this way. I often offer to help the grandchildren with their Easter eggs - just to see if they're safe for them to eat. Funny how they're prepared to take the risk and eat them themselves!!!

Do you realise how bad a whole box of chocs is for your health and how greedy you sound then to be encouraging others? Purely in the interest of health!!!!!

I will never forgive myself for buying a box of Aldi Florentines and "hiding" them for Christmas. Found them in April when they were all while and smelt mouldy.
I think you are all right to eat them straight away.
I have now been told a really good ruse so you don't forget where you have hidden things. Take a picture on your phone of the place and the things in it.

This will sound stupid, but do those rose and violet creams actually taste of rose or violet?
I bought my a box from Liberty a couple of years ago, and my Sister told me that they did not taste of the said blooms.

Yes 1974cookie, the violet creams taste very definitely of Parma Violets. Not scoffed the Rose Creams yet but if they're as good as the violet, they will be lovely. What's to lose at £1.49 a box?
