But DD found the best thing ever in Lakeland (believe it or not) - Charbonnel et Walker maple brazils - unfortunately we have already eaten all 4 boxes she bought for Christmas ?

Miep1, I was in Lidl on Monday and the spiced biscuits weren't in then; other Christmas goodies but not the biscuits. I searched for them.

Begging to differ, Chewy. I tested the violet creams today but not impressed. They didn't taste of much except for the dark chocolate coating. Maybe there's something wrong with my taste buds! Someone had already bought all the rose creams. That's one bit of research done! I managed to resist the mince pies.

Perhaps, in the interests of research, I will have to go and buy some rose creams, try one, then chomp on a few rose petals which are still blooming in my garden.
Sorry, but the violet testing will have to wait until spring.

You get what you pay for. I prefer quality over quantity any day.

Having Hotel Chocolat delivered on a monthly basis sounds like quantity to me!!

I went into M&S this evening and there was a third off boxes of delicious looking chocolates. You will all be impressed to hear that I marched straight past them and bought a Count on Us meal instead.

Yes 1974cookie, the violet creams taste very definitely of Parma Violets. Not scoffed the Rose Creams yet but if they're as good as the violet, they will be lovely. What's to lose at £1.49 a box?

Misadventure

I bought my a box from Liberty a couple of years ago, and my Sister told me that they did not taste of the said blooms.
Disappointing and expensive.

I will never forgive myself for buying a box of Aldi Florentines and "hiding" them for Christmas. Found them in April when they were all while and smelt mouldy.
I think you are all right to eat them straight away.
I have now been told a really good ruse so you don't forget where you have hidden things. Take a picture on your phone of the place and the things in it.

I wonder if they sell chocolate coated sense of humours?
Maybe someone else would like to test those?
Purely in the interests of health, of course.

Do you realise how bad a whole box of chocs is for your health and how greedy you sound then to be encouraging others? Purely in the interest of health!!!!!

mabon I will be thinking of you when I gobble the box of Rose Creams in Dark Chocolate that fell into my basket today when I nipped into to buy a bottle of bleach.

So grateful for you thinking of us all in this way. I often offer to help the grandchildren with their Easter eggs - just to see if they're safe for them to eat. Funny how they're prepared to take the risk and eat them themselves!!!

I think Beech's Chocolates make some traditional chocolates for the supermarkets & M&S.
On their own website they have Coffee, Mint, Raspberry, Ginger, Lime, Orange, Rose, Summer Stawberry, Pineapple, Violet & Lemon creams! And boxes of those little chocolate teddies that only rich relations bought us at Christmas....

As I am near a Sainsburys I will start testing all their Christmas treats. I shall also do Hotel Chocolat because I adore their special Christmas chocolates. All the results will be duly reported back to you Chewy in due course. So this is your No. 1 tester reporting for duty!!

I'll be dropping in to Aldi on my way back from the garden centre and I will certainly test the praline and salted caramel selections. There's a product called 'Waves' on the top shelf of the chocolate section. These are shaped rather like Pringles but come in various flavours, of which salted caramel is my favourite - but beware! they are dangerously moreish! If I have those in my C....stocking, I will finish them before breakfast.
