ps I can manage to make one, not eat a whole one.

I'm just not very good at making cupcakes and don't like all that icing.
However - I can managed an Australian boiled fruit cake!

(And I prefer a nice dry Australian Riesling too).

True! Except that we haven't got any cupcakes yet, but we have plenty of Shiraz! Anyway, Jalima promised to provide fruitcake which goes better with sherry so I'm told, To be on the safe side I'll lay on tea (Earl Grey?); sherries (dry, medium, sweet), Shiraz and a few pkts. of crisps. That should take care of all bases. Cheers!

It's natural to imagine things as you age; after all 118 years must be when memories fade and rest assured you haven't any more in the woodwork or pipeline. I would have thought finding that you now had 5 GGCs in OZ would be enough for the time being.
Still thinking about your "no-expense-spared" birthday present; you haven't changed much over the years have you? Always difficult to buy for; if we asked what you'd like it was "a surprise; and "nothing" won't be a surprise" We'll keep trying; how about a trip in a hot-air balloon or a parachute jump? FYI; Our family came to Melbourne 47 years ago and love it. "f" stands for funny here, although being a hybrid of Brit/OZ, my sense of humour sometimes gets people confused, but it's always good clean fun.
Btw; I'm one of those "decent men" you refer to, but there aren't many of us left unfortunately; a dying-out species.!

I started looking at MN posts after reading about it in our paper. Yes it can be informative and interesting, but what really shocked me was the incessant use of foul language.
Some have even got the f word as their username.

It is especially bad on the Relationship and AIBU threads. So many of these young women seemed completely unable to express their thoughts without resorting to abusive language.

What really shocked me was the thought that these are young mothers, possibly with children looking over their shoulder as they post comments.

I can remember a time not that long ago when no decent man would swear in front of a woman.

Boy, how times have changed.

MN can be very informative. For example, my family’s experiences have shown me how different giving birth on the NHS is for young mums now, but the reports I’ve read on MN have truly shocked me. I hadn’t realised just how bad things were in many areas.

I agree that MN is very hot in terms of feminism and political issues. There is a huge battle raging regarding gender which threatens women and their rights and I applaud those who post about those issues and keep abreast of news items which should concern us all.

I didn't know much about Posie Parker until I read threads there.

My main objection, regarding other topics is that some posters resort to really crass, foul language. I can swear with the best of them and am not in the least prim and proper but one wonders if the language they use online is used at home. The majority are civil. Some are blunt and seem to have little time for anyone.

GN is miles better in terms of 'community' I think.

I like so many GN posters (haven't met any) and find so many very wise, considerate and learned. It's a treat (and an education) to read many posts.

MN has educated me completely to the threats to woman's rights from the transgender movement. For that alone, I am truly grateful that it exists. Not sure whether I graduated from GN to MN or vice versa!

There was no MN when mine were tinies.
There was no internet!

I've never been on MN - I didn't have young children in my life so didn't know about it.
