Just watching the prog. I really find it quite distasteful-yes I know I have an off switch! The royal family is so cynical. They keep themselves to themselves when it suits. Now, when folks are openly talking about havingbhad enough of this spoiled family this film is put out. They really do have a nerve. . . and a very good PR team!

Inverted snobbery is as prevalent as snobbery.

Anniebach Thu 27-Sept-18 17:13:41

I await Paddyann to give the name of the woman queenie evicted .

Eichmann123 Thu 27-Sept-18 16:50:52

not fair. snobbish I think.

Eichmann123 Thu 27-Sept-18 16:15:24

Your comment is what my late dear mother would have called 'common'.

Anniebach Thu 27-Sept-18 12:31:15

DIL, Andrews daughters have no claim on the sovereign grant , the only difference is Andrews daughters have a title.

Zara married in Scotland which was sensible as the Windsor move there for the summer, there was police protection on the royal mile and at the church . Yes she lives on her mothers estate which was bought by queenie.

Andrew seems to find dropping from 2nd in line to the throne to 7th difficult, his problem . The carriage ride around Windsor should be cancelled,

Situpstraight1 Thu 27-Sept-18 12:14:16

I doubt very much that the Queen chose the title for the programme.

Elegran Thu 27-Sept-18 12:11:38

Does she consider herself "Queen of the world" ? Paddyann Has she tried to impose her rule and sovereignty over the whole globe, or is she "just" respected for her experience and discretion? Chapter and verse, please.

She is the head of state of an important country, with links through the Commonwealth to a lot of other countries., so she is a world figure The Commonwealth these days has grown up, it isn't a child taking orders from Mummy.

DIL17 Thu 27-Sept-18 12:00:08

Anniebach Lots of people live with their parents and the fact it's her mother's land just makes her mum the landlord.

She receives no title with land or income attached as has no claim on the sovereign grant. Apart from renting/owning a house on ehr mother's land, she's the same as everyone else.

Mapleleaf Thu 27-Sept-18 09:36:51

I’ve not seen the programme, so may be missing something here, but the queen is not the “queen of the world” as far as my general knowledge goes!

Anniebach Thu 27-Sept-18 08:58:31

Paddyann who is the woman the queen evicted?

annep Thu 27-Sept-18 08:53:53

I agree wholeheartedly Paddyann but what's that about her grandsons house? I haven't heard that.

paddyann Thu 27-Sept-18 08:50:20

They have the best PR team ,personally I find it distateful that anyone would consider themselves to be "the queen of the world" with all the privilege that entails when the world is a hellhole for millions .Maybe Lizzie would like to house some of the homeless and feed the poor ? NO? They are so far beneath her in her perception she doesn't know they exist. Its a mediaeval concept in the 21st century and it should be binned. As soon as Lizzie dies ,even I wouldn't chuck an old woman out of her house....oh wait, didn't she do just that to give the house to her grandson?

Anniebach Thu 27-Sept-18 08:38:49

Zara Phillips does not live independently, she lives on her mothers estate , she has done quite well in show jumping but her horses are from the Queens stud farm. She gets on the balcony for all occasions . So realy no different to her cousins

annep Thu 27-Sept-18 01:33:24

I'm not a royalist and they all have an over developed sense of entitlement. However I love reading books on the history of England Great Britain and watching programmes and I do intend to watch this one. I'm sure it will be interesting. Although like OP I think its a PR exercise regardless of when it was filmed..

quizqueen Thu 27-Sept-18 00:34:43

I think there are certain royals who are not very popular with the general public and many more who no one is interested in. Eugenie falls into one of those categories but Prince Andrew fails to understand that. It will be embarrassing for both of them if hardly anyone turns up to watch her procession around Windsor after her wedding and is an unnecessary expense for the tax payer. If anything, people may be there just to try and catch a glimpse of the guests. Princess Anne had the right idea, not accepting a title for her children and encouraging them to live independently.

MiniMoon Wed 26-Sept-18 17:32:52

I watched it, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I am a royalist. I thought all the embroidery around the Duchess of Sussex's veil was beautiful. The Queen is a remarkable woman too. Plus it was lovely to see the inside of Buckingham Palace. It brought back memories of our summer holidays, as we visited it before coming home.

Anniebach Wed 26-Sept-18 17:03:48

Harry is 6th in line, Eugenie is 9th in line

Eilyann70 Wed 26-Sept-18 16:56:44

DIL17 I don't think you can say that Eugenie and Harry are the same - he carries out Royal duties and she does none. Also he's a lot higher up in the line of succesion and when he and Meghan have children Eugenie and Beatrice will be even further down the line.

callgirl1 Wed 26-Sept-18 16:41:28

I enjoyed it, nice seeing the coloured film of the Coronation, I saw it in black and white on my auntie`s 9" TV screen. The only annoying bits were when Meghan kept fiddling with her hair, she doesn`t need to, she`s a very lovely looking girl.

goldengirl Wed 26-Sept-18 12:23:40

I fell asleep watching it!

DIL17 Wed 26-Sept-18 12:20:12

@mabonal Zara doesn't hold a royal title or any formal royal standing. She is technically a private common person ( I know that doesn't sound nice but that's how it is). Eugenie of the other hand has a royal title and is just as important as Harry.

Will's wedding was huge as a future King, Harry and Eugenie are both the same, just more of the queen's grandchildren.

Elegran Wed 26-Sept-18 12:13:50

The difference is the Duke of York. He has an over-developed sense of entitlement.

mabon1 Wed 26-Sept-18 11:54:46

The Duke of York is put out because the BBC do not intend covering the wedding of his daughter Eugenie. She is a minor royal, Princess Ann's daughter Zara was not given that treatment what's the difference?

DIL17 Wed 26-Sept-18 10:55:18

PamelaJ1 Haha, silly small phone screen.it was meant to say "you do realise"

gangy5 Wed 26-Sept-18 10:21:53

The program was constructed around Megan's wedding dress and was made up of various clips- making for a very disjointed selection. Bit rubbishy I thought.
