Need a hug!

I have been widowed for several years and have, I think, coped well alone (no family), but over the last few weeks I have found myself longing for someone to just give me a hug -a need for physical contact. My friends are not "huggers" and I would feel uncomfortable mentioning it to them.

Sending you a hug from Cornwall

Oldwoman, Have a look at the gransnet page for meetups. You may be able to find some friends in your area who might also like a hug occasionally. Are your sure your present friends wouldn't understand your need for a hug, they may actually need one themselves but don't like to say.

Here's a hug from me too. It's the lack of physical presence that gets you, don't you think? Lots of support on here.

How about organising a Gn meet up? Then you could get hugs from all the Gners in your area?

Being ‘touch deprived’ really sucks doesn’t it? Ever though of getting a rescue cat? Could be a mutually beneficial solution?

And from me xx

I know just what you mean, I really miss that physical contact too. I so enjoy that lovely hug I get when I do see my two sons and my daughter in law gives the best hugs ever. Sending one to you.

Aw, huge hugs, oldwoman. I know the huggless feeling. Husband is currently suffering from horrible shoulder pain and is not feeling very well, hence huglessness around here.

A really big hug from me too and a x

My daughter and I were talking about having nobody to cuddle us in bed, and decided we would market a pillow that cuddles.
Alas, someone already had the idea!

Oh c'mhere oldwoman for the biggest hug ?‍♀️. Everybody needs a hug sometimes. When I was on my own I had a really big teddy bear I would put against my back when I went to bed. Worked wonders to sooth and comfort me. First time Ive told anyone ?

Big (((( hug)))) and cwtch from me too

Pippa000 Tue 25-Sept-18 16:43:54

I can relate exactly to the need for a hug. I am lucky in that my family are great huggers, but it is not quite the same. I do have a memory bear, one of four, a friend of mind made from my late DH shirts and ties and he sits by me on the sofa, but unfortunately he is rather reserved!

annsixty Tue 25-Sept-18 16:32:47

Hugs and flowers from me too.

NanKate Tue 25-Sept-18 16:24:13

Call me mad, send in the men with white coats, but here is a suggestion.

Buy yourself a large snuggly toy bear, pop him beside you in bed and when he has settled into his new home give him a bear hug and maybe when you are settling down at night give him another big hug. Chat to him when you wake up and you may be surprised that in a few weeks you could not be parted from your lovely new friend. ?

Thank you all - I don't know why I am feeling so sorry for myself - there are many a lot worse off than me. Thank you again all you lovely GNs

Loadsahugs! smile

I hug my friend’s dog ( it’s like a teddy bear) but granted, it doesn’t hug me back.

Nannyali Tue 25-Sept-18 15:24:49

A great big hug from me x
