How much is a loaf of bread?

Depends on the quality of the bread I would think.

I’d just love to find a thin sliced loaf of bread somewhere. Dainty sandwiches are delicious and surely it would help with current obesity problems as well as being cheaper on a slice by slice basis.

I don't know the price of the bread I buy but just know I enjoy it and would eat lots more if I could!

I buy my bread from an independent organic baker which means it costs £3 a loaf which I keep in the freezer taking out a slice or two at a time, works well for me, is full of flavour and nutrition. Supermarket bread seems to give me a lot of wind!

I might not know the price of bread but I feel that I know enough to feel ripped off, here in St Ives, having just paid £6 for a ham and cheese filled roll!

£1.80 for a large Heyford in Waitrose . The only reason I know is because I wanted to see how the prices compared at the new bakery where I work .

I bought a large unsliced seeded loaf in Tesco yesterday. I think it was £1.20. I was very nice mopping up the gravy of beef stew my aunty made! (I just wish I could find a blanket as I'm frozen and don't like to presume to put her heating on, she's still sleeping!)

I buy a Warburtin’s sliced wholemesl for about £1.30in Tesco’s, keep it in the fridge and pop it straight in the toaster for the OH’s breakfast. He makes sandwiches from it frozen which defrost in minutes so the loaf will last a week.

We do like proper artisan bread which is very expensive, though. I have seen it at around £3 a loaf or more on the farmer’s market and that is too pricey for us. I buy a kilo of brown spelt flour for £2,20 a bag and use half every week to make two small (and delicious) loaves) which I slice, freeze and defrost when I need it at the weekend. It also toasts straight from frozen. Of course the bread needs other ingredients and the oven costs a bit to put on so it is a little more than £1.05 a week.

I could not afford not to know what bread costs!

If you ve got a BandM near you Jane they sell Warburtons bread at a much lower price than the main supermarkets I like the seeded ones
And their small jars of (real) Bovril are £1.35 about half the supermarket ones

Warburton's seeded batch is what DH prefers and it is £1.45. I would be happy with the cheaper Aldi version but DH swears by Warburton’s. It does last us a long time as neither of us are big bread eaters for health reasons. We usually freeze half of it in one or two slices and toast it straight from the freezer, the other half we use for making sandwiches.

I was going to say that too. £2.99 for a small gluten free loaf which tastes horrid anyway( toasted is tolerable). The cynic in me says that its like having a captive audience

Milk 64p a pint. Delivered from a local farm in glass bottles.

Around £1 for a large loaf, slightly more or less depending on what we fancy. I was paying around £1.50 a few years back.

I’d also noticed that sugar’s gone down a lot lately, midgey.

Asda 50/50 bread is one pound. Suits us & grandchildren eat it as well as it has no seeds!!

I am in the very fortunate position at the moment (three adult household, all working full time) of not having to be overly cautious at the price of groceries (although I am very aware that the amount being handed over at the checkout every week is going up and up).

I think the bread I like is about £1.45 a loaf, and I know, from buying milk for the office that a four pint bottle is just over £1.

I have just reverted back to buying proper butter, having used olive spread for years, and nearly expired on the spot when I saw the price of it! I now make sure to stock up when I see it on offer.

Depends what loaf I am buying as to whether it's fresh off the bakery, on offer etc. Anything from £1 upwards usually

the bread I like is £1 for lge med sliced from co-op or Tesco but the same loaf from Sainsburys is £1.10

While I was clearing out my Mum's house I found an old advert from Kwik Save from when they first opened a store near her, back in the 1960s. It promised that they would never charge more than 1/11d (9 1/2p ) for a loaf! Needless to say, they didn't keep that promise!

Make all our own bread lots of different types not a clue how much a good loaf costs.

Asda own brand multi seeded brown sliced loaf, 85p.

Warburtons, £1.35.

45p for a wholemeal loaf in Lidl. Premium is 79p. I eat lots of bread, Sandwiches with nice fillings and the fillings come from Lidl, as well. Easier to find British food in Lidl than the main supermarkets.
