I was in an antique shop the other day and they had a framed advert for Spangles which took me right back and made me think about all the other sweets I loved but are no longer around. Do you remember Ice Breakers? With the shards of 'glass' in the middle. Olde English spangles were my favourites. Then there were Tooty Minties which were like Tooty Frooties but mint obviously and green and white. And pacers which were like starbust (opal fruits in my day) and had a green stripe round the middle. I am feeling nostalgic and hungry!!

Sweet mushroom with coconut all over them, My datse used to bring a paper bag of them when he visited. Only ever allowed one.
I remember my nanna obtaining a Mars bar (either before of soon after sweet rationing ended) and it was cut into quarter inch slices , a slice for each grandchild.

How about any of these? Oh the memories.. a mother’s nightmare and a dentists dream! grin

My best friend from childhood keeps telling me that she was really envious of a certain sweet I used to buy. She describes it as a long soft bendy tube filled with chocolate. I can't remember it. Please does anyone know. This is from 50s...60s

I used to love Chelsea Whoppers, they came in strips of ten, they were chocolatey but mixed with something that made them soft. DM said that they were the size of large rubbers when she was little but when I had them they were much thinner. I’ve never seen them since.

Any Cadbury's chocolate before they were bought out by Kraft, and ruined all their products.

You can still get Tiffin bars - in the Morrisons at Leamington Spa in the 'World Foods' section! No idea why they're there. They also have Golden Crisp and Mint Crisp and Caramello. Try a larger Morrisons.

My local Poundstretcher sells Caramac giant buttons and they do taste just how they used to!

Tins of Bluebird toffees at Christmas.

annep - Cowan's toffee. Oh how I miss that.

I loved the picture of the Highland Cattle on the front. I still to this day call them "toffee bulls"

Anyone else remember Tobermory Tatties? I wonder if they were a Scottish thing. A flat circle of - well, I suppose it would have been nougat, about the size of the palm of your hand (child's hand!) covered in cinnamon, and with a small plastic toy in the middle of the nougat.

They wouldn't be allowed now - choking hazard and all that jazz.

Does anyone remember these? We had a local sweet shop which sold these sweets, they were about a foot long and were very much like daim (crunchy) toffee on the outside, with soft chocolate running through the middle. They would come wrapped in cellophane.
I am talking 50+ years ago, mind!
No one I know remembers them.

When I visited my grandparents, my grandmother put a 'choclate eclair' toffee on my pillow for when I went to bed - loved it and never gave a thought to my teeth!

Am I the only person who remembers Frother Bars in the 1950s? They were chewy fruit-flavoured bars that frothed in the mouth. I particularly liked the 'greengage' ones which were certainly green, but probably didn't taste much like greengages. I think they went out of production fairly early because I associate them with my primary school years (1956-1962).

I love those chocolate covered toffees as well travelasfar they sell them here with plain chocolate. Unfortunately I broke a tooth eating one so have had to give them up.

You can still buy Poppets in the little boxes. I remember Lucky Numbers chocolates, boxes of Weekend chocs, Tiffen bars and I seem to recall a delicious bar called Lush I think. Penny chews, milk chews, fruit salad, black jack's.. many more.

nibbles Sat 15-Sept-18 11:48:58

You can still get walnut whips in M&S. And pear drops still around

I had forgotten about sherbet pips and Neopolitans.

Just remembered Poppets in little boxes. I liked the toffee ones and the mint ones

sodapop Sat 15-Sept-18 08:40:05

I remember all of the above, penny arrow bars bring back childhood memories.
Also Victory V gums and lozenges, aniseed balls, some coloured crystals which dissolved on the tongue - I can't remember what they were called.
Rhubarb and custard sweets, pear drops. Happy days.

Squiffy Sat 15-Sept-18 08:33:48

A quarter of broken chocolate in a paper bag - 6d I think! A rare treat after swimming on a Saturday!

JoyBloggs Sat 15-Sept-18 08:25:07

Trevor Chews, fruit salad flavour.
Holland's Penny Arrows, long thin bars of toffee in assorted flavours.
Ross's Puff Candy, similar to Crunchies but an irregular shape.
All real tooth-rotters...

pensionpat Sat 15-Sept-18 08:14:40

Fry’s 5 boys used to be sold in vending machines on station platforms. Next to the one where you could punch out your name on a thin strip of metal.

I adored the Nestles triple bar Callgirl And Cowans chocolate toffee bar. Fruit pastilles. I was just thinking today how I never chew toffee now as my teeth might not cope well. ?
We had whoppers in N Ireland. only one penny. chocolate coloured fudge type bar.
