Flu jab already!!

So jealous of those able to have the shingles jab. Saw the notice about it in surgery and asked if I could have it. However, I could have it if I had been born after 1942 but I was born in 1941! Now, as I am 77 I can’t have it until 78. Now I am wondering if I should ask about the cost of paying for it. When I looked on line it was in the hundreds but wonder how much the surgery would charge. I could hardly believe it but I was shown the criteria on a pamphlet.

Booked for our flu jabs on 5th October, then DH for shingles a fortnight later, the nurse said they don’t like to do them together!

They seem to be jabbing us earlier in the year these days.
I had mine done a fortnight ago.

One day these jabs will be revealed as a mass experiment/mistake.
I also had the letter. A couple of weeks ago.
I've never taken up the invitation.
They do write and ask again once the rush is over.
I've not had any flu or illness of that type despite MS giving me a weak immune system.
Maybe I've just been lucky.

My previous surgery asked that you turn up en masse in alphabetical groups. No appointments.
Monday could be all the A-F surnames and so on. A letter was sent telling you your day.

On "jab" days the crowds outside spilled out across the road and down the street. It was in a tiny cul de suc and just a few hundred yards from my home.

Had the air of a charabang outing with added entertainment of playing top trumps with each other over current and past illnesses.

This went on every year. People brought sandwiches and fold out chairs to wait outside the surgery.

Some milled around after their turn and took the two minute walk to the beach. I wish now that I'd taken a photo to post on here.
It was a rural coastal village and covered folks from many miles around.

I got the letter (our practice is antiquated) and rang to ask if I could have it in the local clinic , instead of the surgery in the next village as I can't drive , was told that it wasn't possible . I could get a bus going south to the next town , then a bus going north to the village with the surgery , might be a bit long and then have to get home , I will look up the timetable to see if I can get there between 10am and 12.30

Had my flu jab on Thursday. Just as the nurse pushed the needle in she said "I have to warn you... I had my jab a couple of days ago and my arm's been ever so sore since." Why tell me that when it was too late to back out?
Luckily my arm hasn't hurt at all!

Thanks that gives me hope of getting the stronger variety.

My husband had it done today in Boots and it was the 4 strain one .

We are having ours at Boots on 01 October. Hope they give us the stronger version mentioned on the News today, but I bet we will get the weaker version.

Last year’s vaccine was 30% effective in old people.
There’s a new one this year (available for past 20 years in Italy) It’s made to be more effective for old people’s poorer immune systems but only covers 3 strains. The one for everybody else this year covers 4 strains.
I read this just today. Personally I don’t bother and nor do up to 70% of healthcare workers.

I went to the practice nurse last week to have stitches out. The surgery was full of posters about flu jabs so I asked if the nurse could do mine while I was there. Oh no, she said, we haven't got the vaccine in yet. So I've had to make an appointment for tomorrow.

Mine is booked for 10 October along with my shingles jab.
Who else thinks not only that time of year, but that time of life!

We got an e-mail at work yesterday asking who wanted a flu jab.

I got a text reminder from my GP surgery yesterday. It just seems like a few weeks ago that I had the last one.

Oh yes, looking forward to it (not).
