Great tips! We've got a useful page with ideas from a previous thread.

Thanks for the tip about Vaseline and zips, NanKate. I'll give it a try with a zip which hasn't responded to having a pencil rubbed on it.

Diet Coke doesn't work either in my experience (although again, it's better than drinking the stuff). grin

I tried the coke down the loo trick, Jalima, and ended up with a distinctly grubby looking toilet pan. I suppose it just shows that supermarket own brands aren't always just the same as the real thing.

Now I know this one is weird but I promise you it works... earlier this summer I noticed that a couple of dahlua plants in my garden were covered in black fly. I went to the she'd to get the bug spray but picked up the wrong spray by mistake. I'd already given the plants a good blast before I realised that I'd sprayed them with window cleaner. But since that day, I've not had those plants affected by black fly or green fly. I've bought a 2nd bottle!

WD40 brings stainless steel up beautifully. Quick spray, wipe over and all greasy streaks vanish.

I'm pretty sure there was a sort of hints and tips thread going a while ago, perhaps someone could find it and even get GNHQ to combine them?

Use toothpaste to clean your silver jewellery. It works.

NanKate Wed 12-Sept-18 20:58:54

Thanks I’ll try it - Cheers ?

GrannyGravy13 Wed 12-Sept-18 20:42:27

I agree with the Coca Cola in the toilet!

Jalima1108 Wed 12-Sept-18 20:20:46

Coca Cola?

Well, at least it's better than drinking the stuff!

Any ideas how to remove limescale from the toilet bowl. The standard limescale removers just don’t work in my house.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 12-Sept-18 13:00:44

Get a reliable cleaner.

Midgey/OldMeg Thank you very much for the hearty laugh =)

midgey Wed 12-Sept-18 12:42:51

Old Meg....you have some power theregrin!

OldMeg Wed 12-Sept-18 12:41:01

Instead of throwing that slice of lemon from your G&T into the recycling, throw it into the toilet bowl last thing at night.

I will act as a natural bleach cum disinfectant ?

BBbevan Wed 12-Sept-18 12:05:57

Maw ?

Make your chrome taps etc shine by coating them with toothpaste, leaving for 10 minutes or so and rinse. It works! Also, if you buy a book or a card as a gift with a sticker on it that won't come off, blast with a hairdryer for a minute or so and the sticker will peel off easily.

If you have a big scratch on your car say it must have happened in the supermarket carpark and bluff it out grin

ninathenana Wed 12-Sept-18 11:42:18

If you have a slight scratch on your car spray it with WD40 and buff it out.

I have a new handbag with 4 zips. To make them glide a little more smoothly I got a cotton bud thinly covered it in Vaseline then wiped it over each zip.

I also used the same cotton bud to run along the base of the shower so that the sliding door moved less jerkily.

Do you have any useful tips to share with us ?
