Are you superstitious about colours?

Since reading this thread I want a new carpet !

Red and white flowers in any situation were unacceptable to my late DM. "Blood and bandages". I think it came from WW1.
I would never have a green car as I was told they are hard to see in country lanes. I do like the colour green though and have just ordered a green carpet.

I am not superstitious about colours but my grandmother was very superstitious about green.

One day, when she was young in the 1920's, she decided she was being very silly and so decided to wear a hat with a green feather in it. She visited a tobacconists and they used to have a big flame on the counter to light cigars etc. on. Guess what happened. The green feather in the hat caught fire.

Grandma never wore green again. She lived to be 90 - such a nice lady, I often think of her.

Red and white flowers are for funerals, I'm told and also that they don't like that colour combination in hospitals for that reason!

I don't believe a colour can be unlucky-what nonsense!

My dad saved up for a new winter coat for mum's birthday one year and she was mortified when she opened the bag to find a pea green coat,she took it back next day and had it exchanged for a red one,she always said green was unlucky.

I was brought up to believe that green was unlucky, so in act of defiance after I left school I bought a green winter coat.
Two days later, wearing it for a walk along the seafront, a big wave surged over the sea wall and drenched me and my coat.
Mum was tickled pink! I've never worn green since.

Green is my favourite colour, green clothes, green carpets, perhaps this explains much !

The first car DH bought was a peppermint sea green (manufacturer's name) Corrine which we drove for years. I love green.

I had apple green bridesmaid dresses. An Aunt blamed me for the fact that their car broke down on the way home from our wedding.

JackyB I remember how red and white flowers were never put together by my Mum and my Aunties, even in the house, they said it was unlucky. I'm the same now, can't do it.

I wonder if that is because in black and white photographs, red would look like black?

Does anyone remember that white and red used to be a no-no for wedding bouquets? I realised that when looking at photos of a wedding I recently attended where the colour scheme was white and red. Florists don't seem to worry about it either, so perhaps I imagined it.

Red cars go faster so I've heard.

Bluegal, I am like that as well. We have had green cars, even bought a racing green stove.

There are colours I like and colours I don't and that is the beginning and end of it.

I once had a Manager who wouldn't wear green as he said it was unlucky

I am not superstitious about anything and am bordering on obsession of NOT being superstitious which in itself is a quirk...like I walk under ladders, step on cracks, love black cats walking in front of me (just as well as have had many ha ha).... Had a green car to take me to my wedding etc etc. Maybe I have another phobia eh?

We had a british racing green Maxi years ago. Drove like a tank, no power assisted steering. Just a good workout.
Then we had a green Renault 20. That one aquaplaned on the way to Heathrow. When resprayed, it was a horrible bright green and we soon got rid of it. My going away outfit was a green tweedy mix. Very smart in the day. We have been married 57 years, so something must be alright.

The few accidents I have had have always been in a green car ( not the same one) I decided all future cars would be a different colour. Currently have a lovely bright blue one.

My Mum was married in green (during the war). I don't think she was worried. At one time the colour green symbolised fertility, so was a good colour for brides.

My mum would never buy green clothes. It was OK if someone bought them for her!

don't know Chicken but it sounds very strange, leaf green sounds a fab colour to me.I once had a jade green Escort and I loved it.Logically, how can any colour, flower etc be unlucky?
Anyway, it gives you more space to park in, can only be a good thing.

We had a bright green Lada back in the day. It was built for Russian winters and drove like a tank. It never did wear out but it wore me out driving it as it had no power steering.

We have a green Jeep. All the other 4x4s line up next to it. !!!

I had a nice green Volvo once. It was a good car and I was very happy with it. The children used to call it 'Mum's little tank!' (After Gruber's in Allo Allo)
