Hoorah, hooray, this really is my day!

I love the Liza Tarbuck show too Bazza I look forward to hearing her Saturday evening show, she is so funny and has a fabulously varied play list .

Oh dear, and when I saw his photo on the front page of the Times today, I thought who is that elderly man?

Teetime Tue 04-Sept-18 09:48:29

Yes its the shouting and screeching that offends me- I am delicate flower in the morning and can only tolerate Classic FM these days until I feel stronger then switch to Midnight Café Radio- nice and bluesy and a bit retro back the Classic at bedtime (10pm) for some lovely meditative restful stuff before sleep.

People like Chris Evans is the reason I do not listen to the radio.

GrannyBettie Tue 04-Sept-18 09:31:34

I would listen to it if Lisa Tarbuck was on. I think she’s great.

Magrithea Tue 04-Sept-18 09:17:38

Me too, kittylester and Jane10 - no one forces you to listen so don't if you don't like him! there are plenty of other stations to chose from. I find local radio presenters irritating! At least Chris has done a lot of good raising money for Children In Need. He was talking about who might replace him and mentioned Sara Cox as a front runner - I for one will be re-tuning to Virgin Radio if that's who it will be in the mornings!

Who I’d REALLY like is Liza Tarbuck who makes me laugh more than any other dj but that won’t happen. She has a show Saturday early evening, but not all the time.

I can’t stand his style of presenting, especially at that time of day. Too manic and almost slapstick, so I’m delighted he’s moving on. I tried listening for a bit when he took over, but just couldn’t, he sets my teeth on edge.

I like him & will miss him, yes he can be irritating but can't we all, he does a lot for charity, & he truly loved his mother so he can't be all bad.

Won't make any difference to me as I always listen to our local BBC radio station. Never listen to Radio 2, Radio 4 occasionally when it's sport on local radio, and I've never liked Chris Evans.

annep Tue 04-Sept-18 08:21:24

I've no objections to CE. Although I remember him asking once are you a scruncher or a folder ( of toilet paper). I couldn't believe it and it has stuck in my mind.
I like radio 4, morning, radio Ulster afternoon ( eàsy listening country music and banter) and U105 evening interspersed with Classic FM and dvds.

My heart bleeds! envy

sodapop Tue 04-Sept-18 08:15:46

Yes that must be it gillybob how on earth can one manage on £1.6 million.?

gillybob Tue 04-Sept-18 08:10:30

Meant to add he was persuaded to take a pay cut from £2.2 million to only £1.6 million recently. Maybe he has been struggling ?

gillybob Tue 04-Sept-18 08:09:07

I stopped listening to CE years back when he started bringing his kids on the program regularly. That together with the inflated ego and constant bragging really put me off . I now tend to listen to BBC local radio and enjoy it much more because it concentrates on my region and the people in it, not the life and times of one big headed presenter.

I'm not a fan of Chris Evans and have never understood the beeb's apparent obsession with him. So pleased he's gone and to a station I don't listen to. Brilliant!

Alypoole Tue 04-Sept-18 08:04:31

What about Simon Mayo?

Harris27 Tue 04-Sept-18 08:03:36

I can't stand him loved terry love johnnie walker listen to Paul ogrady on a Sunday still but can't stomach Chris Evans not sorry he's going but wonder who we will get?

CassieJ Tue 04-Sept-18 08:02:37

I have always liked Chris Evans and will be sad to see him leave radio 2

Willow10 Tue 04-Sept-18 07:48:52

I'm so glad its not just me too! That screechy voice was like nails scraping down a blackboard, I couldn't stand it! More suited to children's programmes. Maybe I'll start listening again.

NannyJan53 Tue 04-Sept-18 07:47:32

I liked him too! Livened up the mornings.

Trevor Nelson would be a good replacement although as someone said his voice is probably more suited to evenings. Tom Robinson filled in for Johnnie Walker Sunday and I think he has an excellent radio voice, doubt he would want to commit to every morning though.

I wouldn't want Tony Blackburn or Steve Wright as replacements either Bazza

At the end of the day it is radio and there are many channels these days to chose from.

Bazza Tue 04-Sept-18 07:35:13

I like him too, since I read his autobiography. Don’t know who will replace him, Sarah Cox might be good. As long as it’s not Tony Blackburn or Steve Wright. Personal taste obviously.

Jane10 Tue 04-Sept-18 07:31:34

Can't stand Zoe Ball or Sara Cox. Both trying too hard/saccharine sickly. Guess I'll just have to retune to Virgin radio. It'll be a bye bye BBC from me!

Hm999 Tue 04-Sept-18 07:28:40

I like Radio2's music, but I don't actually like any of the regular DJs (present or past). I have Chris Evans on in the car for short bursts, but couldn't imagine listening every day to the whole programme. I also love Sara Cox and Trevor Nelson when they sit in for one of the regulars. Zoe Ball's good.
Like some others here, I was a teenager listening to Caroline and London, and once in a blue moon I catch Johnnie Walker, but after over 50yrs of avid radio listening, I find it either confrontational or tedious. Radio 4 has totally lost my heart, (there are bits I like but it's never on continuously like it used to be) and I prefer listening books.

Jangran99 Mon 03-Sept-18 20:45:00

Don't care who replaces CE, I haven't been able to listen to the morning show since he took over.I wish him no harm so hope he will be as happy at Virgin as I am to hear the back of him!
