Names in fashion

My granddaughter is called mairéad Susan Janet, but everyone calls her Maggie-Sue! Actually I just call her Mags!! Margaret was her dad and grandads mum, Susan is her Nan, Janet after her great grandmother..

I think the Patricia’s, Pauline’s, Sheila’s etc will be back with the next generation. My Grandmother and her ssisters were born in the 1890’s and were the Emma, Charlotte etc brigade, then my mother’s generation were the Edithand Ethel’s, then it was my lot, so many Patricia’s in my class it was a nightmare, and so the fashions repeat themselves!

I work in n a nursey just had new intake donavann Thomas and jack new favourite. Girls more flowery names elie rose sienna rose etc will watch for Barbara and. Carols and Pauline's!

My nephew called their little girl Dorothy Brenda. She is 3

At school in late 60s, we had 6 Janes in our class, 6 Elizabeth’s in another and 6 Susans in a third class in our year. I was first on our register and Jane Wootton was last. I wonder where my fellow Janes are?!

My 2 year old DGS has friends called, Hugo, Deven, Albie, Archie, Alfie, Zekkie and Arthur.

I have a Ruth, my daughter in law is Ruth and so is her cousin!

I have a friend with twin boys called Darius and Hector, and a colleague of DH’s called his son Hugo. In our class at school we had a Caroline and everyone thought her name rather exotic. There were a lot of Susans and Christines as I remember.

I expect TV shows, films and (in the past) radio shows influence choices of names.

I don't know any little Ediths, but I think it's a pretty name. The same with Doris.
In my part of the country, family names are still often used so people in their twenties or teens may be called things like Norman or Cyril.

In my class, in the 1950's, the girls were Margaret, Enid, Susan, Janice, Rosemary, Carol, Deirdre. The boys all seemed to be called Stephen or John!

I thought my name was probably popular in the sixties, so I just looked it up.
It was actually most popular between 1915-1930.
I'm pleased, and I don't know why.

I am 66 and there were 5 Lindas in my class. I have never met anyone older than me called Linda.
