I almost watched a film last night but couldn’t persuade myself that I could believe that Tom Cruise was Jack Reacher.

Ben Affleck was the best Jack Reacher, IMHO. I think he has been played by different people in every film they have made.

I did start watching the film last night but Tom Cruise just annoyed me so much that I switched off. He’s certainly not Reacher but I also found his botoxed face quite creepy. I’ve always thought of Reacher as a bit like Tom Hardy but then he’s not tall enough. Maybe Clint Eastwood’s son, Scott? He’s very like the young Clint but I think he’s too pretty for the Reacher I imagine when I read the books

I can't see Joe M as Reacher either. Too many muscles!!!

Tom Cruise is only ever Tom Cruise to me. I don't like him anyway, not since I saw a pic of him grinning his face off as he and some female 'celeb' were holding up two little Siberian tiger cubs at some mega event in a theatre. I was outraged at their being used like that.

Some actors are just like that IMO - good actors or not, they don't truly 'become' whoever they're playing - not to me anyway. I still remember Robert Redford in Out of Africa - to me he was just Robert Redford right through.

Others, e.g. Meryl Streep, Al Pacino, to name just 2, most certainly do.

Seaclffe, I also read cruise paid loadsamoney so he could be Reacher. Bathsheba, yes joe mangellio would be fine.

I imagine Jack Reacher with scruffy dishevelled blondish hair, a bit "craggy" not smooth, very tall and strong, a little bit like a younger Harrison Ford.

Joe Manganiello would fit the bill nicely I reckon! He's tall - 6'4" and 41 years old and... well I'll let his picture speak for itself

I could not watc the film because of the casting either. I feel the casting discredits the whole feeling that Reacher is to impose on the story. A giant with principles but who is prepared to use violence to get the result he believes in. I am never quite sure why I m little in love with a man who might otherwise be described as a thug - is he or isn’t he? Whatever the answer, Tom Cruise doesn’t fit the bill. Suggestions on the rest of the thread ladies - after all, if James Bond can be recast ...........

I've read and enjoyed most of the books. Started to watch a DVD of the film with my DGS. Gave up after about half an hour. DGS thought it was boring and I thought Tom Cruise was just creepy---- nothing like Jack Reacher.

I suppose Dwayne Johnson is the right size but I'm not sure about his acting ability!

Read the books and seen the film. Tom Cruise is not in any way Jack Reacher. Totally miscast. I don't think the books should be made into films. I think we all have an idea in our minds what our Jack Reacher would look like and I doubt if we could all agree on one actor. But it certainly isn't Tom Cruise.

I've read most of the books but didn't want to see the film once I had heard that Cruise was to play Jack Reacher. I think I read somewhere that in some scenes he had to stand on a box!

My sister has read most of the Jack Reacher books and she can't believe Tom Cruise is in the role either.

Tom Cruise was one of the producers so naturally he cast himself in the lead! I've been trying to think of a younger actor who could play the part convincingly but can't think of any. Who would others like to see play the part - Clint Eastwood would have been perfect but is too old now!!!

I got really angry when it was first announced, I took it personally!!

I'm not sure, but I did hear Tom Cruise paid a lot of money for the film rights provided he could star. Not sure if that's true.

Another Lee Child fan here. How could they do that to Jack Reacher? So I can't watch Tom Cruise . DH has recorded the film.

It is quite difficult to read a book and have the character and his mannerisms firmly implanted in your head then to see a completely persona on film.

I``ve been in love with Jack Reacher for a few years now, and definitely can`t make myself watch Tom Cruise playing him. In my mind, Reacher looks a bit like a young version of Peter Schmeikel, the former Man U goalkeeper.
