Hi Everyone. Just a quick update. Our landlord, The Guinness Trust, were proposing to remove the community alarm system. We protested this, even took this to the Housing Ombudsman who found that Guinness had not followed the correct Regulatory Standards and their own terms and conditions. The decision was thereafter delayed until they carried out the correct consultations.
We, the tenants, have now received a letter to say that they are going to, quote: 'to restart the active management of the warden call / community alarm system in your home', end quote. The testing of the alarm system is to be reinstated and then we will be able to use the alarm system in the event of an emergency. Guinness are not reinstating a charge for this during the current financial year.
One of the Sheltered Schemes in our area had the whole of the alarm system replaced when it had a complete failure. I believe the system cost a great deal of money to replace. Whether it is the cost of replacement, or as Guinness have stated in their letter that the smoke detection within the properties are connected to the alarm systems, I don't know. What I am sure of is that now each resident will have the security of knowing that an alarm system is in place should they ever need to use it. I don't know if this is the same throughout the country but I sincerely hope so. We need to feel safe in our homes and this goes a long way to make sure this will happen, so thank you Guinness.
