dog slobber

Well irrespective of the gymnastics of individual dogs licking their own parts would be enough for not to let any animal that does near my face let alone share an ice cream with.

My MIL had a lovely Labrador but I admit to really disliking the slobber (usually when food about or after exercise.).

Some find it adorable some find it deplorable I guess.

Lucky not many dogs are flexible enough to lick their own bottoms. They do lick their male parts. And dogs sniff other dogs bottoms but they don’t lick them, nor do they lick piles of dog shit as a rule, though the occasional dog might eat its own. Not nice I know.

Just thought I’d put the record straight as I’ve noticed your extreme dislike of dogs on recent threads. Dislike is your prerogative, spreading misinformation is not something I can let pass. Sorry.

What annoys me is people who walk into my house and don’t offer to remove shoes. I wouldn’t actually ask someone to do this but to my mind they are walking all sorts of germs into my house, and as soon as they leave I have to wash my floors. At least this woman was only sharing germs with her own pooch, though it’s not something I’d recommend ?

sorry travelsafar, sadly this was not a wind up. i watched the woman offer the icecream to the dog. i thought at first it was the dogs icecream. so i carried on watching the dog enjoy his treat. then the woman brought the icecream up to her mouth and ate it.
the woman caught my eye as she did this, there was a flicker of hesitation, then she looked away. so did i, we'd just had lunch

Not only do they lick and sniff their own bottoms, but other dog's bottoms too; and piles of dog shit!! shock

Mapleleaf Thu 30-Aug-18 09:17:29

Oh, goodness, how disgusting is that??

harrigran Thu 30-Aug-18 09:12:52

That is so revolting ? I can not believe that people are so disgusting, they deserve to get tummy bugs.

travelsafar Thu 30-Aug-18 09:00:16

This has to be a wind up--- surely????

No that's definitely a yuk from me. My three dogs love yoghurt and are allowed to lick out the pot and lid when I have finished. No sharing of plates or food in my house.

OldMeg Thu 30-Aug-18 07:33:31

Nice one springychicken ?

I certainly wouldn’t share with my dogs in that way, but people are free to do so if they wish. Their dog, their ice cream, their choice.

NfkDumpling Thu 30-Aug-18 07:12:34

Nooooo! I’ve been around dogs all my life. The dogs have always had their own bowls, etc, never licked human’s plates, etc, and never licked faces. I cringe when a dog is allowed to ‘kiss’ someone on the mouth. It may be natural in dog language but not in human. I mean - they lick their own bottoms!

ha ha chicken. that made me smile. i hadnt thought of the poor dog in all of this

SpringyChicken grin

SpringyChicken Wed 29-Aug-18 22:44:41

Disgusting. I hope the dog doesn't catch anything.

muffinthemoo Wed 29-Aug-18 22:31:54

I did this very thing as a toddler, I still remember the rows blush

I give him the end of it once I’ve had enough now.

Nanagem Wed 29-Aug-18 22:21:18

Oh yuk, I didn’t even do that with the children, I know a lot do, but I never did, we use to snap the bottom of and make a baby cone too !

Bathsheba Wed 29-Aug-18 22:17:41

Bleurgh!!! I saw someone do this once and I could scarcely believe what I was seeing. It made me want to vomit.

Luckygirl Wed 29-Aug-18 22:15:04

Oh yuk, and much more yuk. And indeed a bit more for luck.

petunia Wed 29-Aug-18 21:59:20

ugh, i know. it was a dog with a huge, wide, long tongue. not a small, delicate tongue. not that it really makes any difference

Alima Wed 29-Aug-18 21:55:41

That is truly revolting to me. We used to break off the end of the cornet and scoop some of the ice cream into it. Voila, an ice cream for Gem/Chlo. Never like the idea of dog slobber. A few minutes back they were licking their bits. Not nice.

So, you are out at a local beauty spot, it’s a lovely day. You have your dog with you.hes sitting at your feet. You are eating a lovely, creamy ice cream. Your dog looks at you with large, pleading eyes. Do you
a) Ignore the dog?
b) Allow the dog to lick the ice cream and then finish it?
c) Allow the dog to lick the ice cream but finish the ice cream yourself?

The answer, as I observed yesterday is to let your dog lick all around the ice cream and then lick it yourself

Is it me or is that meh!!!
