The most embarrassing incident was at choir practice once. We had a short break and when I came back to my seat my book wasn't on my chair where I'd left it. I asked everyone around me if they'd got it then stood up and made a general announcement (it's a big choir) to see if anyone had picked it up by mistake. No result. We continued singing and I had to share a book with the person sitting next to me. At the end of the rehearsal I found the book -in my bag! I told a few people and they said 'You even accused us of stealing!!' (Jokingly, but I felt awful! )

I am so very pleased that I am not the only one who has jumped to the wrong conclusion that I had lost or had stolen an item.

I got a lovely email from the manager of the hotel where I thought the thief was holed up. He said he could see how upset I was, What a lovely young man he is, and good looking too. ?

I once thought someone had come in in the house and stolen my purse as it wasn't in my handbag in the hall. The front door was unlocked and I was convinced someone had come in while I was on the computer. I had to go to town for a hairdo and had no cash or card so took a cheque to the bank and got enough cash out that way. When I got home I went into the room where the computer is and there was my purse next to the pc. I'd got it out to pay for something with my card online.

MOnica, my friend also found her purse in the freezer, two days after she had reported it to the polis, with a detailed description of the ‘ obviously shifty’ fellow who had sat next to her in the station, and whom she was convinced had stolen the purse from her bag.

When we had our lovely golden lab I used to be the one to walk him in the early morning. I always took my mobile with me just in case. When I got home I used to put the radio on but this particular time couldn't find the remote. On checking, it was in my coat pocket and my mobile on the sideboard where the remote usually was. Imagine if I had come across an accident and said " Hold on I've got my mobile"- and pulled out the remote from my coat pocket!!

My worst mistake ever. I dropped my prescription specs down one of those French "toilets" at Saumur Chateau. I had to fish them out and wash them. biggest Ughh ever!

DD 1 couldn’t find her keys once, until they were sent back to her by the company to which she had returned some shoes!

Well an advert for mobile phones has just popped up on this page!!

18 years ago, my DSs gave me my first mobile phone which I loved dearly but when I downsized to another house, I couldn't find the phone - until I moved the car and found I had run it over. Surprisingly, it still worked, albeit with a cracked screen. Its replacement phone also disappeared. I phoned a hotel where I'd been at a meeting - but no phone. I tried the person who'd given me a lift. No phone, so I reluctantly bought another. When I cleaned out my car, there, under the passenger seat, where I had looked several times, was the missing phone. The next replacement phone eventually got drowned when I washed my jeans with it in the back pocket!
Touch wood, the current phone has stood me in good stead for three years.

My parents lived together with my uncle and aunt when I, and my two cousins were tiny,..it was a busy household. My aunt mislaid one of her bras. The house was searched, cupboards emptied, laundry baskets upturned etc etc but it was nowhere to be found. A day or two after the great bra search my uncle was making breakfast and delved into the depths of the bread bin. He decided to take out the paper, used to wrap the loaves of bread, that had gathered at the bottom of the bread bin. There, covered in crumbs and tangled in the paper, was my aunt's missing bra! In our family, when anything was lost, the bread bin was always a go to place to check first!

Some years ago we were going to France in our campervan and could only find one set of keys. We were so paranoid about losing them, DH wore them round his neck on a lanyard. Since then, I've lost a set of car keys around the house and lost my purse through turning out my handbag looking for car keys. So now we both always wear car keys around our neck on a lanyard. Probably look like silly old duffers, but it's a lovely warm feeling that they are there all the time.

Lancslass1 - yes I have and St Anthony has always found them. I once lost my car/house keys and found them in the rubbish bin! I would never have thought to look there.

I 've had the phone in the back pocket problem. I can hear it ringing but the more I move towards the sound the further away it gets. So frustrating.

Yes, indeed, St. Anthony returned my amethyst rosary that I forgot in the hotel we stayed in when my eldest niece got married.

I phoned the hotel and was told the rosary was not there, which didn't surprise me, as I am afraid I was cynical enough to assume that whoever found it had kept it.

A week later, the rosary and the case I keep it in, suddenly appeared on the shelf in my room where my statues of the Virgin Mary and of the Holy Infant of Prague stand.

I know I didn't place it there. Never told DH this, as the rosary was a present from him.
