Thanks janeainsworth. Perhaps I could do a "visit Shropshire thread"? As to headscarves, if they are as popular as you believe Rufus, wearers could start a "beige headscarf society" similar to the red hatter one? Not my scene personally - can't get the image of Les Dawson out of my head since this discussion started.

Can't think when I last saw anyone wearing a headscarf but I do think it's time to take your own advice rufus!

No! I can't believe that! As I've said, Michelle is family. I can still recall, from 50 years ago, ladies in beige raincoats and headscarves yomping into the teeth of Westerly gales; the only sensible head gear.
But I can't see you being allowed into Royal Ascot with one even if it's windy; the safest bet would be HM's cloche .
Think I'm out of my comfort zone, so I'll get the hell out of here, again. Meanwhile, will check with Michelle.

I have a lovely silk one sent to me by my French penfriend when I was about 14 - cream, red, green with maps, pictures and writing all over it.
Must fish it out and wear it.

Actually, I wear a headscarf over my rollers in bed, never go out in one though. And it`s not beige, it`s a very colourful Lloret de Mar one.

My hair is so uncontrollable I thought of buying some heated rollers. Perhaps I may need a headscarf to wear over them, a la Hilda Ogden.

Possibly; I remember many, many, years ago when we lived in Windsor; we'd take our Border Collie out into Windsor Great Park for a run over to Smith's Lawn where all the princes and their Spanish and S.American mates played polo
The Queen often turned up in her LandRover, always with headscarf and Wellies. That was a real thrill.! Can't remember any horses, though! It could have been a mini Royal flag.!
At half-time, spectators were invited onto the pitch to help replace divots, kicked up by the ponies' hooves, although I can't recall if HM ever joined in.

Spoke with Michelle last evening and explained I'd suffered the slings and arrows of some outraged GNetters in response to her query, but no serious wounds have been inflicted, yet! I reported that the majority verdict was anti-beige.
She thanked me for my bravery, but then said she had forgotten to mention the profusion of "head-scarves" (beige?) amongst the beige wearers.

It depends what you are looking for oldbatty. Church Stretton in the south would be a good base for countryside and walking in surrounding Hills. Shrewsbury is a pleasant county town on river and within reach of NT, and English Heritage places, and Ironbridge is a large WH site for those interested in Industrial Revolution history, to name a few spots. Did you mean Wrekin Katek , which is near Wellington and a little distant from Stiperstones and the Long Mynd, but yes the Stiperstones Inn still serves good meals and ale. I'm not working for the Tourist Board btw but deserve a commission!

Would you recommend Shropshire for a small break please? If so, where is nice?

My brother and family live up at the top of the Wrekin very near Stiperstones! Beautiful part of the country.....wonder if the pub still does a good lunch?

The nice thing about Shropshire is that it doesn't feature heavily on the tourist map, has lovely countryside and even in summer there are plenty of quiet spots which are great for walking and cycling.
