I recently bought an album by the group 'Madness' and heard a song called " Shut Up "
It included one of the funniest lines that I have heard for a long time:

" I'm as honest as the day is long.
The longer the daylight , the less I do wrong".

So Gransnetters, the ball is now in your court. ??.

From Piece of my heart

Nvella good lines. Everybody Knows is so well written and still relevant.

If we’re talking funny - Ian Dury
“Oh golly, oh gosh come lie on the couch
Win a nice bit of posh from Burnham on Crouch”

If I could get another chance
Another walk
Another dance with him
I'd play a song that would never ever end
How I'd love love love
To dance with my father again

Growing up I remember dancing with my beautiful dad, oh what I would give to have one more dance with him......

Make Your Own Kind Of Music
Cass Elliot
Nobody can tell ya;
There's only one song worth singin',
They may try and sell ya,
'Cause it hangs them up to see someone like you.
But you've gotta make your own music
Sing your own special song,
Make your own kind of music even if nobody else sings along.
You're gonna be knowing
The loneliest kind of lonely,
It may be rough goin',
Just to do your thing's the hardest thing to do.
But you've gotta make your own music
Sing your own special song,
Make your own kind of music even if nobody else sings along.

Baubles and Sukie - There is no-one like Leonard
“Everybody knows you've been discreet
But there were so many people you just had to meet
Without your clothes
And everybody knows”

Nvella Fri 24-Aug-18 22:40:21

Merlotgran - I often think I would like In My Life at my funeral.

jeapurs beautiful song. We spent an English lesson writing the lyrics out instead of our essay. A line I love from America - "The moon rose over an open field". Lovely image. S&G were good together.

Different Class album by Pulp is good.

annep Fri 24-Aug-18 22:23:46

lemongrove good one ?

annep Fri 24-Aug-18 22:22:41

MissAdventure he's not for everyone but to his fans he is a very special person. He always took such care over writing his songs. If you decide to look I would recommend trying Famous Blue Raincoat. and this ..if link works. youtu.be/-vKONRcAJnk.
London Live Concert on youtube is good.

Alleluia ( a Leonard Cohen song) although I would have to google the exact words, a wonderful song.

From the sublime to the ridiculous: Right Said Fred
‘With the wall down, even with the hall down, we was getting nowhere,..so, we had a cuppa tea etc.

lemongrove Fri 24-Aug-18 22:16:26

Ah, thanks MissA for the correct title, yes, it’s a great song and has interesting lyrics, full of angst!

annep Fri 24-Aug-18 22:13:20

Jalima obviously an Elton John fan.

MissAdventure Fri 24-Aug-18 22:10:38

I need to investigate Leonard Cohen, I'm sure. smile

annep Fri 24-Aug-18 22:09:05

garnet25 Possibly my favourite Cohen song.

annep Fri 24-Aug-18 22:07:32

.......And the Johnny Walker wisdom running high
And my very sweet companion
She's the angel of compassion
She's rubbing half the world against her thigh…

from Closing Time...Leonard Cohen

MissAdventure Fri 24-Aug-18 22:07:13

Its probably one of my favourite songs ever, lemon.
Its so wonderfully grim!
'How soon is now'

There's a club if you'd like to go?
You just need somebody who really loves you..
So you go and you stand on your own.. and you leave on your own.
And you go home, and you cry and you want to die!

lemongrove Fri 24-Aug-18 22:01:43

‘ I am human and I need to be loved, just like anybody else does’ (same song as you quoted MissAdventure I
am the son and the heir etc) This Is Now?Something like that grin

I also like ‘ blackbird singing in the dead of night’ ( Beatles)
And ‘Morning has broken, like the first morning’ etc.

annep Fri 24-Aug-18 21:53:44

The wonderful Cohen again grannydarkhair

MissAdventure Fri 24-Aug-18 21:47:58

She's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything was as fresh
As the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I'd stare too long
I'd probably break down and cry

Busset135 Fri 24-Aug-18 21:47:04

At the bitter end,
Salt and liquid blend
From the corner of my eyes.
All the miles wrecked,
Every broken step,
Always searching, always blind.

Never fear! No! Never fear!
Never fear! No! Never fear!

So let your heart hold fast
For this soon shall pass.
There's another hill ahead.
