As you don't know what was going on in that young woman's life at that time, please try and be a little less condemning of her. Be thankful you were there in the right place to stop anything serious happening to the little boy, and don't be so quick to condemn what you are not aware of.

My daughter was out yesterday and right in front of her a girl aged about 7 or 8 rode her bicycle straight off the pavement in front of a truck, my daughter screamed, the child fell off her bike but the driver managed to avoid hitting her, the child was hysterical, had hurt her elbow but apart from that seemed OK. My daughter talked to her, asked her name and address etc and calmed the child down, then walked ( a long way out of her way) the child home. Knocked on the door, young woman opened the door holding a baby and said 'Yeah?' my daughter said 'I have brought your daughter home as she had an accident', the woman said 'yeah OK' and shut the door.

Mapleleaf I was in a shopping centre a few years ago when a woman stepped on a short escalator with a child in a stroller. She went over on her ankle as she stepped on and the stroller tipped over and was heading down towards the teeth at the bottom. Most people froze and one man leapt forward and grabbed the stroller just before the child's face came into contact with them. The woman stepped off, glared at the man, snatched her child away and stormed off. I was too far away to say anything to him but everyone else just went about their business and he looked really shaken.
There is a reason they tell people to fold strollers on escalators but people always think that rules don't apply to them.

There have always been stupid and careless people in the world.
It is so frustrating to see these 'almost' accident situations as it leaves you feeling annoyed and worried!

She probably snapped a picture of him crying and posted about how her "little man" frightened to life out of her.

It's a sad reflection that I'm not really surprised by the story of the little boy. Poor little chap, I suppose there is no hope his mother learned anything from the incident. Thank goodness you were there to help Oldwoman

Oldwoman - thank goodness you and the other responsible people were there, poor little boy. ?

Yes that was incredibly stupid and dangerous.

Yesterday, my friend and I were shopping in town. We needed to use down the escalator when a man shouted "'scuse me" as he barged past, followed a long way behind by his two young boys trying to keep up, wearing only socks on their feet - their shoes were in their hands. They were rushing to get to the newly opened trampoline centre which is downstairs to the side of the escalator. This explains why they were in stockinged feet, I suppose, but on an escalator ? It doesn't bear thinking about what could have happened if their socks had got caught in the grooves. Dad was completely oblivious of the danger and too far in front of them to have done anything. Talk about irresponsible!

What can be said Oldwoman, stupid, stupid, stupid woman, she could have killed the child

Melanieeastanglia Wed 22-Aug-18 16:17:08

I agree that her attitude was wrong. Thank goodness you were there to help.

Busy road, young child running ahead, well there's a no,no for a start !! Could have been so much worse.
Her reaction beggars belief.

I was walking near the local hospital today (which is on a busy road) when a small boy running ahead of his mother/carer tripped and fell, he rolled onto his neck and was rolling into the road when I managed to grab him. Another passer-by and I tried to comfort him and his mother/carer just glanced up from her phone and said "are you OK" and then went back to her phone!!

A man who also stopped shouted at her "yes that's fine, you finish your tweet whilst these two ladies take care of your injured child"

Perhaps the use of mobile phones whilst on a pavement with a child should be one of the things GNs ban come the revolution.

The child fortunately just appeared to be bruised and, of course, shocked and crying
