Something light, about clothes

Gdańsk is another great place for a city break.

Glad to hear you had a good break too. ? We went to Kraków one February. Thank goodness I checked the weather the day before we left - I’d assumed it would be cold, but my goodness! I spent the whole week in fur coat, fur-lined boots, woolly hat and gloves. It was beautiful though, so atmospheric with snow, ice and braziers everywhere, and I think it was probably the best way to get even a tiny idea of how brutal conditions in Auschwitz were. We’d like to go to Kraków in the sun some day.

We were so lucky in Wroclaw. Sunny and 26 degrees, but it clouded over and started to rain just as we were getting on the bus to the airport.

storygranny we went on the Azura last September to Norway. The weather was autumnal. A few warmish days but in the fiords it is cooler. So needed a jacket, but not a big coat.
Just an aside. Be on deck, port side, or on your balcony, when you leave Olden. Have a super time. ??

I enjoyed Krakow immensely. Lovely buildings and architecture, friendly people, and great Restaurants and Cafe's.

The weather was cloudy but very warm, ironically it was very hot the day we flew back (Wednesday). Would definitely like to go back again one day.

It's cooled down now here in Central Europe - so don't bank on it being hot. Poland is rather northerly - remember it borders Lithuania, Belarus and the Ukraine! Dress for autumn, but go for layers you can peel off if you will be indoors (shops, museums, coach rides)

NannyJan53 and oldbatty, I hope you both enjoyed your trip to Poland as much as we did ours! We were in Wroclaw, a beautiful city that mustn’t be on the tourist trail proper yet, as we were the only non-Polish couple on the plane. Great sights, wonderful food and beer, and very friendly people. Also very stylish .

I am in awe. I bought a mac in Peacocks.

For an eleven day holiday in Portugal in May I took:
4 cotton dresses, 1 jumpsuit, I pair of trousers, 1 cashmere cardigan, 5tops, 1 pair of flat ballerinas, plus the usual pants and bras. I don’t take nightwear, or toiletries apart from a toothbrush.
I wore a linen trouser suit and high top trainers to travel in. Everything fitted into one small carry-on suitcase, plus a tote bag for tablet, earphones and travel essentials like tissues, wipes, charger, makeup, and a small cross-body bag with passport, phone, money. We travelled by train there and flew back, so I need to be able to carry everything easily. I make a picture list of everything I’m packing and number each outfit:day one travel, day two travel, day three Lisbon etc. I’ve done this for years-it’s fun to look back on what I’ve packed ages ago! I’m planning a trip to Bordeaux and San Sebastian in October, for about eight days, and shall follow the same routine

In my experience Polish women tend to be very diverse and, like us, wear what the heck they like!

I don't know for certain about Poland but in Germany most women wear jeans or trousers. Chopped off trousers very often and being Polish, like the Germans, they will all have brown legs.
I would take a skirt as well and some kind of tailored jacket.
Take a skirt with an extended waistline to cope with all those dumplings!

I only get wobbly over weather and whether I will be too warm or too cold.

I cruised up the Norwegian coast in February, loaded up with thick warm clothes. The temperature on shore never fell below 0 and the temperature on board was 110 (or felt it).

However we went to northern Spain early in May this year, I checked the weather daily for a week and then took summer clothes rather than spring clothes and got the call right this time. After that I just pack what I need from my usual day to day clothes.

I have to wear big floppy pantaloons now, with a hanging gusset.

I am a Jeans kinda gal oldbatty worn them all my life since teens!

Its seems 3 of us are off to Poland soon

I think the 3 colour thing works well, eg black, white and beige then everything goes with everything else instead of a cart load of mis-matched items you'll end up not wearing. Most of us take far too many clothes. Keep it simple.

I’m off to Poland for a week too, oldbatty, so see you there! I haven’t checked the weather yet, but when we’ve been at this time of year it’s been similar to home. So I’ll take just what I’ve been wearing here lately, a roll of light dresses, a couple of cardies, sandals and flats. Sorted. Have fun!

I am off to Poland (Krakow) next week for a few days.

I will just wear Jeans for travelling with a light top and jacket. Will take white jeans and various tops and a sweatshirt for chilly nights, and one dress!

Storynanny and Mini Moon, we went to the fjords in April 2 years ago, I spent loads on warm clothing which hubby hardly wore and I never wore as it wasn't needed. Yes, it was cold, but not over cold, I took boots but wore sandals all week. Anyway, enjoy, the fjords are spectacular.

To use a rather cliched phrase, "capsule wardrobe" Stick to possibly 3 colours, make sure everything will go with at least 2 other things, then bung in some "accent" stuff, i.e. scarves, necklaces, earrings etc.

Start with the shoes, ones that you have worn before and know to be comfortable!

I actually did this on a 5 day trip to Paris, and it worked! But I had sort of cheated, found some clothes I liked, bought the top, which was quite a long shirt style, with 3/4 length sleeves, the skirt (long) and the trousers, all in a dark blue print, packed a couple of white tops, jeans and my beloved classic blazer, everything went with everything else, was able to sort of mix and match stuff, and bingo! Bob's your uncle's milkman's budgie!

Layers and far less than you think you need oldbatty. Definitely comfy shoes. No one else will notice what you wear, have a look on google at the average temperature, pack accordingly and just be comfortable.

We’ve been surprised with weather in the fjords, sometimes warmer than here story and mini, layers for you too. Enjoy, I love the fjords cruises .

Enjoy yourselves everyone, once you are there the clothes won’t matter.
