Just had my daughter on the phone ,its her birthday next month and she's not happy her OH will be working away for it.She is having a big party the day after and he will be there though he'll arrive late .Apparently is all MY fault her expectations are so high .".I always gave her fab birthdays" I'll add that to the "its all your fault I'm a chocolate addict because you never let me have any for years "

What do you gat the blame of in your family .

I feel so much better after reading all these! Yes, youngest son blames me for everything.I am often told " Keep your beak out of it, nosey" , then told It was " your fault, you didn't say anything or remind me!"
Am I bothered? Not now, long ago learnt to think
" Whatever" and stopped feeling guilty!

Sorry, not lighthearted. My MIL refused to sign for my DH to have the polio vaccine as she had read in the News of the World that some children had died/contracted polio from the vaccine. Subsequently DH became the last Polio victim in the county, having just returned from the Scouts Jubilee Jamboree at Sutton Coldfield.

Whose fault was this? According to MIL' s twisted logic it was the Scouts for allowing all these 'foreign' Scouts to attend the Jamboree without insisting that they had all been vaccinated.

It was my fault my mother was unhappily married to my stepfather as apparently she only married him for my sake!

On a lighter note ....its my fault DD has to spend so much time cooking! it seems that if I hadn't baked cakes, she would not hate the bought versions so much.

me too Nana3 my OH and his mother dont have any grey yet .Even though his mum is mid 80's so the grey definately comes from me ,though I hide it so I've no idea how she knows I have grey hair .

Nana3 Mon 13-Aug-18 07:59:06

I get blamed for my dd's having grey hair.

Hilarious reading the posts here. ?
I am sure my children blame me for all sorts of things but they don’t say much. This could be because their father (my ex) has been so abominably awful that my misdeeds pale into insignificance.
I wonder if some of the time the word “fault” was replaced by “the reason why” it would make the statement less infuriating. I don’t blame my mother but I can see why I am the way I am.

Great reading these posts. Thought I was the only mother that gets blamed for everything. Everything is my fault. Think I’ll just tie myself to the national grid ?

It's my fault DD isn't more sporting ... tidier ... punctual (blah, blah), as I didn't insist on sports activities, tidiness, or that she got everywhere on time. And I thought after all these years she might be responsible for those things. grin. OH is a different matter, blames me for everything, but bought a print which explains 'I didn't say it was your fault, I'm only blaming you". I find it strangely comforting. hmm

Deedaa I have spent ages clearing out DD's rubbish things and paperwork - it must be my fault she is a hoarder - but I blame MIL because some of it was hers. grin

When MiL left her council flat DD and I helped her pack everything up. She had so much junk and a lot of it got left behind. We kept asking her if she wanted to take various things with her and she kept saying "No". About 6 months later she realised that she'd left all her knitting patterns behind. Naturally this was my fault. I should have told her she wanted them! For the next 10 years me letting her leave her patterns behind was raised at regular intervals. Perhaps I should add that her arthritis was so bad that she couldn't actually do any knitting.

Yes sheilasue I get blamed now for thr awful clothes they wore in the 1970s (which eere of cpyrse fashionable then) - also rhiwr hairstyles and glasses ( on old photos.)
But what is really frustrating is 'Why didnt you make me eat more vegetables/healthier food?' Oh how I tried!

helensf Sun 12-Aug-18 19:26:15

Oh yes! My fault for being alive and breathing and deep disappointment to MIL for not being from 'good stock' (builders daughter). Only redeeming feature is that I/we gave first grandchild (she has not time for granddaughter 2).

loopyloo Sun 12-Aug-18 18:32:15

Its my fault, I didn't insist on DD having her bcg vaccination. And let her stop going to the orthodontist when she moaned.

rubytut Sun 12-Aug-18 17:39:33

My fault I did not insist my daughter learnt to play a musical instrument and a December birthday.

Rosina Sun 12-Aug-18 17:28:06

A mother's place is in the wrong. It seems we have all realised and accepted this.

Samie Sun 12-Aug-18 17:21:22

Everything that goes wrong, he is an expert at putting a story around it that makes it my fault. I'm absolutely flabbergasted by the way his mind works. As it happens I have just been into the kitchen and found him picking up a biscuit and it's crumbs from the floor - guess whose fault it was he dropped the biscuit - well you know don't you, he knew I was waiting to go past him... which made him drop the biscuit - eh

Emptynester Sun 12-Aug-18 17:15:06

Apparently my fault DS has a Christmas birthday, though I blame him as he wasn’t due until end of Feb, and he has always been premature!

Lilyflower Sun 12-Aug-18 16:56:13

It's my fault the DH had to resign from a trusteeship which was taking over all of our time together by making ever increasing and encroaching demands and preventing us planning anything. Couldn't be the fault of a bunch of unreasonable old fanatics with nothing else to do with their time.

damewithaname Sun 12-Aug-18 16:33:29

We do big birthdays too but not with fancy things. Balloons all over the house, a cake, a personalised crown made from craft items, and made an absolute fuss of for the day.

Every year they say "it was better than my last birthday".

Because your birthday is not just another day smile

Juliet27 Sun 12-Aug-18 15:38:45

Quite the reverse here. If my mother ever did anything wrong she used to say ‘now look what you’ve made me do’

paddyann Sun 12-Aug-18 15:04:33

wellGabriellaG I thought it was funny ....there you go,we have very different attitudes to our AC I suspect.I've now been roped into doing the buffet for the party as well as making the cake .Wouldn't have it any other way.She has life very hard with multiple health issues and we'll do anything possible to make it better for her .Even take the blame for past misdeeds ...lol

annodomini Sun 12-Aug-18 13:17:14

Glad I have been long divorced from the ex who always blamed me if we took a wrong turning when he was driving and blamed me if we took a wrong turning when I was driving. Need I say that in reality it was always his fault!

DotMH1901 Sun 12-Aug-18 13:12:22

Depends on what mood DD is in - the other day she accused me of lying then refused to say what about and went into a complete full out sulking fit when I told her to have at it and say what it was that had so obviously caused her so much grief. Half an hour later she asked if I was making a drink and, if so, could she have a coffee! She is 39.

Jalima1108 Sun 12-Aug-18 13:10:47

The title of the thread contains the word *Light-hearted*

hmm perhaps one or two missed that

Grammaretto Sun 12-Aug-18 13:05:08

inishowen, it was not your fault. He must have been treating you as an extension of himself.
Likewise it was my fault this morning for letting hot coffee spill on my trousers. He caught the pot on something I'd left on the table and didn't see it.
