Winter draws on!

Still in Summer frocks and sandals here, though we have had some of that, whatchamacallit, wet stuff this week. I’m off to Poland for my hols, just hoping they have a bit of Summer left.

It's chucking it down today, we got soaked when we were out earlier today. My feet are still cold, must find some socks!

Still hot here. We've had two days worth of very welcome rain and the veggies are looking so much better.

I dug out a warmer top this morning as I thought it was going to be chilly but regretted it by the time I got to where we were going. Had to swelter until we got back home.

I was shocked to come downstairs this morning to find The Wonderful Man had logs merrily burning in the sitting room woodburner. I am really happy to welcome the rain. The temperature hasn't dropped below 17° so it's still mild and the rain has freshened up the garden and allotment.

Very sunny here this morning (Black Country), and was walking in Baggeridge Country Park with 2 of my DGD's picking Blackberries (they are so small this year, probably due to lack of rain). We had lunch sitting outside in the Café grounds.

5pm and it has gone very cold and rainy!! Other half has just put the heating on!

I am sure this is just a blip and summer will be resumed shortly

We have had some rain today, IMba k in Wales visiting a friend. Still wearing summer clothes a sandals as its not cold. Hoping temperature will go back up and definitely don't want summer to end yet we are off to France on holiday on the 18th. No winter yet thanks that's very depressing

Still got the swifts and swallows here in South Yorkshire. A bit cooler, but no where near winter yet! It's still only early August, let's not wish our Summer away.

I was away earlier this week for a few days and I am off on my longer summer break tomorrow! Please can we hold back autumn for the next week or two! Please!!

Someone just said on the radio that the heat wave is coming back..........Noooooooooooooo!!!

Back from holiday, I am back to morning walks, which this time of year always include a polybag for any blackberries I see in my peregrinations.

I have been absolutely amazed how late blackberries are this year. I have gathered barely a handful in two days. Many blackberries are still in flower and many more only have the tiniest of berries, showing that they were in flowers in the last week.

Usually I am starting to pick blackberries from late July onwards. I have never seen blackberries as delayed as they are this year. Mind you, it looks like a bumper harvest when they do ripen.

The blackberries in our garden seem to have finished.

I do hope there will be a second crop.

In the NE once you get to mid August the earlier nights seem to come in so quickly. After the very long summer days.
Even moreso in Scotland I expect.

Hahaha....most of the fabulous summer (on GN) has been spent with people complaining! Too hot, too dry, too light, too many people outside having fun, too much noise lol.....NOW I guess we are going to have a whole tirade of
its too cold, too wet, too dark to do anything bahaha......

I had been waiting for that.....

I'm loving this cooler weather so no complaints from me. For the first time in weeks I've slept well, been relatively enthusiastic in getting gardening chores done and caught up on all the ironing that I've been too hot and bothered to look at for weeks. Autumn around the corner? Bring it on!

I’m so pleased to hear that the hot weather is coming back by next week end, it’s much too early for the summer to be over.
Our winters are long enough without them beginning early,
though I’m so sorry to see how quickly the nights are pulling in.

There are lots of BlackBerry in my garden. I've had a thin jumper on today. It's still summer but its changing, lots of trees here have changed colour. You can't tell nature when its autum by the calendar it comes anyway. I hate the heat so roll on sutumn

Well said, Glitterknitbaby. I struggled a bit when it was really hot at night, but the warmth is preferable to the cold, wet damp. My joints certainly think so! ?

At the moment I`m revelling in the fact that it`s a bit cooler, so fed up with being hot and sweaty 24/7. It`s great being able to get under the duvet and actually get some sleep, even the rain, which was needed, has been welcome. No doubt when we`ve had a couple of weeks of being cold I`ll be moaning about it, but not yet.

Bluegal, no weather complaints from me, i really appreciated the hot sunny weather, but at heart I prefer autumn and winter.

This morning was a real autumn morning, there was a chill in the air, it was cloudy and damp and I picked over a pound of blackberries. What is more the other bushes, elder, rowan, hawthorne and rose were bent down by the weight of their berries. The only thing missing was that autumn smell.

Still we are promised a return to summer days by the end of the week!

I really enjoy each season as it comes, but my favourite is Autumn. I am quite ready for it now, although a couple more weeks of sun for my DD and DGD birthdays late August would be nice.

Your birds have had plenty to eat in the wild. The summer is still with us, just because we've had some rain it doesn't mean winter is nigh, we have awsome autumn to enjoy yet.

Still quite warm where we live SE though we are just now getting a light shower. We noticed that the birds are starting to eat the nuts from our bird feeder, probably plenty of insects to eat when it was hot so didn’t bother with bird feeders.
I know it’s getting darker now but love the Autumn season.
